I have a 94 escort 1.9 and my A/C used to work. I charged it up one of those portable kits back in feb 04 right before I came to germany. Since then, my car has sat for 2 years. After the first year, I drove it for a few weeks and that is when my A/C stopped working. It would work intermittently but when it wouldn't, at idle the cars engine would rev a bit for the compressor to kick in. Most of the time the compressor wouldn't turn on but once and a while it would. I replaced the relay cause I thought it was bad but I still have the same problem. I have a new low pressure sensor but I have to drain the coolant to put it on. I swear that either the sensor is bad or I need my system flushed. What do you all think? |

If it still has pressure in it, recharge it with a pressure gauge. You need to raise the idle to abou 1000 or 1500 to get it to take the charge. This is a very cheap way to see if you have a fast or slow leak. It worked for me. I found the leak, tightened the fitting the ripoff mechanic failed to torque properly, and it has held for a year now. Chances are the leak is the front seal in your compressor. |
Really, great info. Tomarrow I will head up to the AAFES car center in Hanau to get one of those recharge kits. AAFES doesnt do A/Cs so I would have to bring my car to ATU, a german pep boys. |
