I'm trying to find the name (and type ) of this Navy Plane.

Any info would be a help.

Thanks

Douglas A-3 SkyWarrior, AKA "The Whale".  KA3B is the EXPERT on these babies.  There were attack, refueling, and E-warfare versions.

Those were some ugly airframes...

You can search Bureau Number's and usually find a link or two.

My ship, USS Midway CV-41 had the last operational A3D squadron. They were huge, the Navy's first nuclear bomber and converted to a multitude of uses throughout it's career.

Thanks all.
I was on the USS America in 1981, and they had one onboard.
The picture reminded me about it just wanted to know what it was.

Thanks again.

That aircraft is an A-3D-2, and it's last assignment was NATC Patuxent River.  Supposedly, it was used for research prior to being put on display at the New Englad Air Museum in Bradley, CT.

Edited to correct hyphen in nomenclature.

Actually the first bomber to be nuclear capable was the North American AJ-1 Savage, the A-3 was the first JET bomber for the navy IIRC.
