There's nothing like it.  I can watch any team play and love every minute of it.

Only thing bad about football is that it ends way too soon

I used to be a huge Dolphins fan growing up.  I had my whole room decked out in Dolphins gear.  Now I have pretty much just a passing interest in it.  I don't care enough to actually watch a whole football game, but I do enjoy when the Dolphins and the Bengals (my home town team) win games.

But to answer your poll, baseball has always been my favorite sport, and I still love the Reds. I love the sport of basketball too (baseball and basketball are the only sports I played through high school) but I am not a fan of the NBA brand.  I like the Cavaliers, but what the NBA has become, and how they pander to certain demographics really turns me off anymore.

I used to be one of those people who didn't care about team sports at all. I watched the NFL with my friends and it grew on me a little, mostly because there are strategies and tactics and creativity . I still don't understand all the rules, especially the penalties ... the game seems very complex.

Other sports just don't seem enjoyable to watch.

But the Steelers are in town and I'm going to troll the shit out of their fans.  There's a dedicated Steeler's bar downtown.  The bartenders know me, so I should be able to avoid an asskicking.

If we're talking about things to watch on TV, soccer sucks even harder that football. It's about as riveting as watching Bob Ross paint happy trees.

I guess I just used up all my attention years ago when I had to watch actual game film and learn a 3-inch-thick playbook.

Watching other people who I don't know or care about, doing similar things, hundreds of miles away, just isn't that exciting.

How many football stars have made it in world-class rugby?

Different games with different requirements, especially at that level.

To me, the thing with other sports is that they don't seem as dynamic. Soccer, basketball, hockey and the like have a pretty steady level of movement throughout the game. It seems that in football there is more potential for sudden changes and dramatic comebacks. Other sports seem more about personal athleticism and personnel management than tactics.

This is a non-sport guy's opinion; I guess any preference is pretty arbitrary when you get right down to it.

Why would they?  NFL is where the money is; that's why rugby players try to make the leap.  Wouldn't make sense to go the other way.

I have season tickets to the Denver Broncos but in recent years have only made 2 games or so a year. I grow more ambivalent about it yearly and have considered not continuing to pay for season tickets.

I might watch the last 2 games of the Stanley Cup but ignore the rest of the Hockey season (have not followed since they went on strike over a decade or so ago).

The last basketball game I watched more than 5 minutes of was a Harlem Globrtrotters game in The late 1970's

Baseball I followed the Astros in the Bagwell / Biggio era when I lived in Houston.

And fuck kickball ....err...I mean soccer.

After

Strikes
Blackouts
Teams moving
Paying stupid prices
Cheating
Scum bag players

I lost all interest in pro sports

I see it as just another way people have invented to take my cash and give me little in return.
Unless friends or family own the team or are on it .... what exactly are you rooting for?
Few if any players on these teams are even from the state the teams in

Then you add in
Dorks that wear jerseys and have giant stickers on their truck and flags on their houses .... will actually fight you if you like another team ......... I don’t even want to be remotely associated.

How many of you know ... that beer you paid 8 bucks for was provided free if they hung their sign in the stadium .... its all just a scam IMO

Used to like it, but I finally realized that American Football has devolved into 13 minutes of activity spread out over 3+ hours.  When watching it in person the abilities of the athletes really comes to the front, but the seemingly endless waiting while TV commercials are being played really takes away from the game.

I know a lot of people like to hate on Roger Goodell when it comes to this, and I admit I am not his biggest fan, but you have to understand...he really doesn't have a choice but to do what he is doing.

The fact is, Ex NFL players go broke at an insane rate.  A lot of these guys don't take into consideration that all the money they will make in their life will be made in a period of less than 10 (and in most cases, less than 5) years because they skirted through college knowing that they were good enough to go pro one day, so they have no other skills.  Add that to they get wide eyed when they get their first pay checks, and don't realize that they won't be able to live that lifestyle for their whole life...and when you mix that with knocking up women who's goal in life is to get child support from a rich man...and you can see why so many of them go bankrupt down the road.

I truly believe that is the biggest reason for all the class action lawsuits that get thrown against the NFL.  For everybody that thinks the NFL should go back to how it was in the 70's, and I agree it would be more entertaining, you have to understand:  if they don't take the steps to at least have the appearance that they are trying to make it "safer" it won't be hard for lawyers to press lawsuits against them (which has already happened to the tune of high amounts of money.)

There are some players that may have deserved it...but the fact is that when over half of your players are unskilled (other than football) dumbasses that will one day be broke, they will gladly throw their hat in the ring with a chance of a free pay day, whether they have legitimate injuries from their playing days or not.

I know some of it may have to do with wanting the game to be more fun for casual fans, I think the biggest part of it is trying to save their asses from losers that want a free pay day because they pissed away all their money and have no way to earn any more unless ESPN hires them.  I find it hard to fault them for covering their asses, personally.

But then again as I said, I don't really get into it as much as I used to, so maybe my opinion would be different if I did.

For me it's a warm summer afternoon with a cold beer and a baseball game... Or a cold day with cold beer, warm stew, and a football game...

Or a cold day, with warm stew and a cold beer....

Or maybe any day with a cold beer and some food.

Or just cold beer, period.

If athletes the caliber of modern NFL players played rugby, there would be 2-3 fatalities per game.

The NFL sucks, but the level of athleticism, the pure size, strength, and speed, is fucking amazing.

I have no doubt that it's pressure from lawsuits.  No arguments there.

That doesn't change the fact that football is less enjoyable with all the powder puff penalties, at least for me.

Personally I want to see large men knock the shit out each other while moving a ball down a field.  I don't care if they use steroids, don't care if they are thugs, and I don't care if they are not smart enough not take care of themselves.

Nobody is forcing anyone to play football, they are adults that can do a risk assessment when it comes to their health, and with a league minimum of 450k per year they have the opportunity to save accordingly.
