After seeing the myspace thread a few minutes ago, I felt compelled to write up a rant.

I like Myspace to an extent.  I use it to keep in touch with friends, whether they are people from high school, grade school, friends from college, even a few ARFCOM people are on my "space."  If you're reading this and are on my friend list, please don't take offense.

Where it bugs me is the following:

-The friend requests that are spam.  The people, who are usually women, that send me requests.  I look at their pages, and they are either blocked right away due to adult content, or they have the same written description stating that they want to chat with people or that they have a "site with pics."  In the same vein, they'll send messages to my inbox stating they just moved and they want to chat with me sometime.  No, thanks.

- Spam bulletins. They're the kind that post stuff like "free Macy's gift card" or "Nintendo Wii." You should never click on the link, it brings to you to a sign in page.  Sign in, and your password gets phished(stolen).  Then YOUR account starts posting the bulletins.

-Chain bulletins.  I USED to fill those out, but I quit being gullible and people said the bulletins clogged their page.  The bulletins say stuff like, "Repost and your true love will text you."  Does ANYONE believe that crap?  The "surveys" are interesting even if they're repetitive.

-Music. If you're a fan of rap and hip-hop, I'd advise you not to read this bullet point.  Sounds like everyone likes rap and hip-hop, but it doesn't mean I like it.  Good stuff like rock or metal is in SHORT supply.

-Club Promoters.  No I don't want to go party at your club.  Quit asking me.

Spam event invitations that are little more than spam for free laptops.

Okay that's all.

I have NEVER posted this......

I don't read most of the bulletins. And nobody gets approved unless I can figure out if I "know" them or not. I've asked myself why I even HAVE a myspace page since I don't seem to use it for anything.

Catsclaw,
I never said you, my friend.  I meant people that got their passwords hacked.

Myspace is a good tool to find old friends and keep in touch with those who've moved on from school, etc.  It's free(unlike Classmates.com) and since "everyone" seems to have an account, it's pretty easy to find and communicate with people you know.  In fact, more of my friends have my Myspace URL than my e-mail address.

Get off of myspace and go out with your friends.

Get down makes a strong arguement...instead of finding them online, find them in reality...and go out drinking with them...or mabye shooting with them.  either way, its a great way to meet up with old friends

If you change your pass word from time to time...you will avoid most of the issues you mentioned.

All bow down to Get Down...

Seriously, I used to be glued to the internet. Sending an email or two to your friends is cool, but get out and do things. Don't just communicate by text.

this is what pisses me off the most.  i can't stand the surveys either.  when i first signed up, i thought the bulletin area would contain important info, not stupid shit i don't want to read...

Hey Deej,

you mean all those hotties that are sending me friends requests aren't for real

Damn, and I thought I was just a stud

yeah I know what you mean.  I hate all the spam bullshit.  I wish they would pass a law for e-mail accounts and persona; accounts along the same lines as the "Do Not Call List".  I wasnt to be on a DO NOE EMAIL LIST unless I initiate contact.  That shit really pisses me off.  Sorry I'm ranting in your thread, maybe I need to start my own rant thread

Yeah I really had no idea either.
If myspace got rid of their bulletin section I wouldn't miss it in the slightest.
However, if I want to inform them of stuff, like say a mass thank you for thinking of me on my recent birthday, that's really the only thing the bulletins are good for.
Colt_Sporter, I had to change my password and it got rid of the phishing.
Chesh, I agree completely.

i was just thinking...  is there a way to ban people from your bulletin?  there are two or three people that fill my bulletin section up with the most inane bullshit you've ever seen...  things like inside jokes that only one other person knows about.  if i can't "ban" them from my bulletins, i think i'm just going to remove them.
they push the important bulletins such as changed phone numbers and such down so fast i almost never see them.

btw, i don't see your name on there very often, deej, so it's not you. i think i see one of your bulletins every couple of days if even that.

i have a couple other people that post 6 or 7 bulletins in a row over the course of 10 or 15 minutes
