Yeah, the second one, "Promises" is a sexy romance with a lot of Nikki's fans pulled in. It did very well last year. I met her at a writer's conference a few years back and she's pretty established in the "shades of gray" type genre--does very well with it and she's got a loyal fan base. She loved "Unbeliever" so she proposed doing a collaboration to give me a boost and the exposure. It was very nice of her and she introduced me to her publisher who took me on. Her readers always give me a look now. "Unbeliever" is a military/paranormal action crossover. "Nine Line" is about a Doc in Ramadi Iraq and it has more of a "Catch-22" feel. As many of you know, I was the Doc who worked on Ryan Job in Ramadi in 2006 and a lot of the medical stuff in the book is based on personal experience. "Promises" is about an Iraq war vet who falls for the widow of one of his men.--war mixed with some romance. Perhaps a little too much romance for the guys but there is a lot of blowing stuff up and shooting in it as well. |

not sure how they work, but suspect that Amazon has a rating system - and free ebooks helps push rating up that in theory should attract sales. I seem to recall similar tricks used to get a book on the NYT best seller's list (knowing that getting on the list helps bring in sales). Only problem with the NYT trick, is it was based on books shipped - and if they did not sell later I bet their was a return provision (which when you read contract fine print, probably bit a few authors in the ass - as royalty premiums were required to be repaid). |

I've always been curious about how the free books work. You don't have to say if you don't want to (or can't). Do you get paid by the publisher out of pocket for copies "sold"? Do you get nothing? Something else? Same rate as full price or different? We get nothing. Free is free. These are usually done to increase exposure and do lead to sales after the special. |

Most of the ones I attended were just like that scene in Throw Momma From The Train. What was the name of the conference? I could use a good one. |
