I miss my Nicholas every day.  I was very strict with him, I taught him how to hunt and to be quiet when nesesary.  He was very disciplined hunter.  That said, I failed, I did not teach him how to deal with a device on a road.

By "Device" I assume you mean an IED ???

Can't be taught by you dad. You did everything within your capabilities and should be very proud of that fact.

My son survived a command detonated IED last year in Iraq.

You and Nicholas will forever be etched into my heart. Fill free to IM me with your story...I ain't a "Shrink"...Just a dad with two sons willing to serve this great country.

Dennis, I am very sorry for loss of your beloved Son and Marine.
I offered to buy him a dinner at his favorite restaurant  when he had made it out of Parris Island.

Dennis, don't let it burn a hole in soul, you did not fail him.

I'm in a mood. I'd lock anybody that ever sucked on his internet pee pee too, but that just me...and probably why I'd not ever be good in a leadership position. - 4xDawn

Just makes it that more personal for me. I can only try to imagine his loss. Damn, I hate tear ducts.

I am sorry for your loss.  I could not imagine a greater measure of success than being a father of a Marine.  Fathers do what Fathers do and Marines do what Marines do.  It is just how things are.

Dennis, you and your family have been in my prayers since you first told me of this.  You know I'm here for you if there is anything I can do.  Even if it is just take you out for some sweet tea and hot wings.  I'd love the chance to see you.

You cannot blame yourself here.  He was called to service much as you were.  It isn't your fault he answered the call.  He wasn't so much following Dad's footsteps as he was answering his own call to duty.  He went to a very bad place to fight for our freedom and security all the time knowing the risks.  He sacrificed everything for the good of the rest of us.  Don't be saddened any longer by that sacrifice.  You have suffered long enough, friend.  Honor him for his service and sacrifice.  There is a special place in heaven for people like Nicholas and you will see him again.

God bless you, Dennis.  I'm here if you need me.  678-234-9545.

Dennis,

I am so sorry for your loss.  When I met Nicholas, I was impressed with his maturity and upbeat nature.  His decision to serve his country made me respect him even more.

I pray that your thoughts of him focus always on how he lived his life.

I thank him for his contributions to this nation and the people he helped protect.

I thank you Sir for raising a fine young man who was brave to accept the role as protector to this nation.  You have done a great job as a father, don't tell yourself otherwise.  Fathers in this day-in-age raise weak sons... you didn't.  You produced and raised a strong man.

Sir, My condolences to you and your family.
