Yes pliers are amazing
Gives you a few extra blades and a diamond file for sharpening your main sticker It's a great survival tool I carry mine every day. Wave for years charge ti now. Don't leave home without it damn sure won't go camping hunting without one How old was that shit? They're virtually all stainless now with some models having premium blades and such |

I still have my mark 1 mod 0 original Leatherman from God knows when and it hasn't rusted even a little. Of course the one thing that would probably rust first, the file, broke off a long time ago when I tried to pry at something with it. And the only thing I use more than it when camping is a hand axe. Ever since I got that Leatherman I haven't carried my scout knife in a camp. |

If I did use the tweezers, it left such an unmemorable impression on me that I never replaced them in the twenty plus years since they disappeared. |

I have found mulltitools handy in the woods, mainly for their pliers. SOG tools have more grip than others I have tried, and I have not actually broken one yet (unlike gerber or leatherman). Victorinox would be my number 2 pick. I carry my SOG every day and use it at least once or twice per day.
But for camping, I find a hatchet or a stout machete to be more of a multipurpose tool. Have fun cutting poles or digging with your leatherman. Or splitting kinling, hammering in tent stakes, notching limbs and poles.... |

| Absolutely, it replaces lots of little tools. I use it as a pot grabber, knife sharpener, can opener, hook remover, screwdriver, etc etc and a billion other uses outside of the obvious knife/pliers/file tools. When your hiking up to 10 miles a day for two weeks, you need to pair down and a good multi tool is a no-brainer. And even if your just car camping then why not? Two is one plus your not lugging it around anyway. |

I have a Leatherman Crunch in my jeep. It is really cool, but it has never been used in the years I have owned it. I also have a Leatherman Pulse that I occasionally use around the house. But, when I got camping, I have multiple knives I take with me and a tool-set for repairs on the Jeep if need be. I wouldn't rely only on a multi-tool. It is better than nothing, but unless your arm is stuck under a rock and it is all you have to cut your arm off, well... You are better off having a good knife and a small pair of pliers. Things that are specifically designed to do one thing really good, not multiple things at once that are somewhat decent at it. If you do decide to get a multi-tool, then Leatherman is the way to go. |

Why would anyone not working to earn their Totin' Chip certificate want to do any of that? Cutting poles, My tent has a lightweight collapsible pole Digging, for what? A plastic garden trowel will dig enough for an impromptu latrine. Splitting kindling, I have a lightweight stove Hammering in tent stakes, I've never failed to find a rock to do that with Notching limbs and poles, again, why? A hatchet is a heavy burden best left in the car trunk at the trailhead. So is a multi-tool for that matter. |
