I'm thinking about dropping my Dish Network.  My Parents are thinking about getting Dish Network.  I figure I can just take my dish and receiver to their place, hook it all up, look up the dish settings on the web to get it aligned right, and problem solved.

A friend of mine moved his dish like 10 years ago, had no problems.  I do own the dish, but I 'rent' the DVR receiver for some odd reason.  (I owned the non-DVR recvr).

So, any problems with this?  Any Sat installers out there that can confirm/deny/give some tips, etc?

The biggest problem is your contract with Dish. It only allows you to receive programming at YOUR address.

If you have your phone line connected, they check the number when the receiver calls, and will see a new number from your parent's home.

If you never connected a phone line that isn't going to be a problem.

Installing the dish may be a problem if you have never done one before - first, before anything else, get a compass and check that there is a clear view of the sky in the direction of the satellite(s) you need.

Use proper cable to connect things up, not cheap cable tv stuff from Radio Shack.

Probably the easiest thing to do is to proceed as follows:

1) Tell Dish you are moving - give your parents address as where you are moving to. Dish will tell you to leave your old dish in place and just take the receiver. They will install a new dish at "your new home". Depending on current offers etc, the "move" may be free.

2) Tell your parents to behave as if you live there -- you are out at work etc ... unless you can actually be there when the installer arrives.

3) Leave switching over payments to your parent's CC for a while. It will (presumably) be the same family name on the new card, so that shouldn't cause any problems.
