Downloaded the dot release of 8.0 thinking they had fixed the bugs. Itunes loaded fine after the upgrade but the next time I opened the program it starts an installer which then prompts me to reboot. I fought with it last night and did a system restore back two weeks and it still didn't fix the issue. I finally uninstalled everything Itunes and downloaded a new copy. Worked fine after installing until I again tried to start the program I get. Now I'm back where I started. Anyone having this same issue? I'm running Windows Vista if that helps. Is this Apple's way of making sure I never shut down my PC or Itunes?  |

Are you absolutely positively beyond certain that you're not either clicking on the installer or a shortcut leading back to the installer? |

I have downloaded and reinstalled Itunes and Quicktime a dozen times and it still won't work. I'm using the Icon that it drops on the desktop to access the program and every time it starts an installer that tells me Quicktime is not installed. I installed Quicktime separately and then Itunes which didn't help either. I tried to reinstall Itunes 7 and it says it can't open the library because it was made with Itunes 8. Any ideas? |

When you say you uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, did you blow away everything to do with iTunes? Library and all?
I had some problems getting to the iTunes store. I'd use the add/remove programs thing and get rid of just iTunes, download and reinstall and I'd still be fooked. In the end, I backed up my library to a portable hard drive, uninstalled/deleted everything to do with iTunes (including Quicktime), downloaded and reinstalled and reimported my library, and I was back in business. |

I think I finally have it working consistently. Several forum mentioned installing an older Microsoft tool that would reset permissions. I did all of that and finally stand alone Quicktime would work. I then installed Itunes. After install it started up just fine. Thought I had it fixed. Closed Itunes and reopened from the shortcut it created and it immediately started to run the installer. I went and changed all the permissions for Itunes and redid the shortuct from Program Files. It's kind of fixed now. I still have to right click on the icon and select "Run as Administrator". I do get a message every time though that says I have compatibility set to run in an older version of Windows but everywhere I look that box is not selected. What a POS. If I didn't have over $700 invested in Ipods and accessories I'd throw them in the trash. |
