Was doing a run Eastbound today and a Frontier 300 was relaying the lat/longs along with the condition of a guy and girl who went emergency landed a RV-6 N52VC in the Wyoming or Montana area. We could only hear the Frontier side of the conversation, but had it not been for them, these folks might have been in a worse situation then they were already in.
One of the concerns mention was that they could not get to warmer clothes in a backpack and they had landed in a snow field. Prayers are with this couple.... |

Also, if it sounds like ATC is having trouble reaching an aircraft, offer to relay the message. |
| I was the pilot of Frontier 300 that you overheard. We were enroute from spokane back to denver when we were able to help 52vc. Luckily my next flight was denver to seattle so I checked back in with Great Falls radio on the way. When I called, they said that the people had been pulled off the mountain 15 minutes before. Beyond that, I still know nothing. I found this posting/forum by googling "n52vc airplane". So far, it is the ONLY thing I can find on the crash on the entire internet. If anyone finds out more, drop me a link. [email protected]. |

Van’s RV-6A – near Cody, Wyoming: A small, single-engine airplane crashed in a snowy field under unknown circumstances. The accident happened just before 4:00 PM about 2 miles east of Yellow Mountain. Pilot Joseph S. Richards and wife Maria A. Richards were both injured in the accident, which involved a Van’s Aircraft RV-6A (registration N52VC). The plane was on a flight from an airport in Boise, Idaho to an airport in Michigan. After the accident, the pilot contacted air traffic control (ATC) and informed them where he was. When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found the plane in six feet of snow. The pilot had been unable to open the canopy, but rescuers were able to pry it open. ETA: Link to report above |

And here I thought my google skills were pretty good. Thanks guys. Welcome. If you like guns, stick around.
I generally only monitor 121.5 if I think someone might start talking to me on it... draw your own conclusions
I wish GA radios had the ability to monitor guard in addition to tx/rec on the tuned freq like the .mil radios. |

THIS!!! 121.5 can be an invaluable tool in coordinating rescues, relaying information to lost pilots and helping to pin down ELT sources. It's also useful for getting pilots onto the right freq to avoid getting higher ups all riled up |

We could only hear your side of the conversation and it was clear that your encouragement to this couple and keeping them in the loop impressed both the Captain and me. Nkce job. First beer is on me in Denver next time. |

New reporting requirements after the NWA guys missed DTW mean more than just supes get involved. in the short time frame we have we've used guard, ARINC, dispatch, the previous sector, and company traffic to try to get a pilot back before we have to report Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Where did fucking common sense go? The fear of the enforcement Feds is becoming the only motivation in aviation, when in reality 70 years of experience shows that its the poorest one. Got to justify those GS-13 billets, though. Sometimes, you just brainfart. Mistype or misdial a freq. I'd guess that one in four pilots knows that the freqs for Centers, to include the hailing freqs, are on the back of the hi-alt enroute...you know the one you're using as a sunshade? |
