Found an old Surefire C2 tucked away and began boring it out to replace C123 batteries for 18650. I am looking at replacing incandescent bulb with led drop in and some sort of McClicky tail cap. Question is, I have sworn off cheap Chinese Ebay crap, but I am looking at a 1000 lumen led drop in for ten bucks and tail caps for around fifteen. Anyone have experience or advice in this matter?

Look at the solar force tail caps and led dropins. They are good to go

Malkoff P60 drop ins are at the top.  McClicky switches are highly rated.  1000LM will probably require 3A of current, so you might want to check the rating of the OEM switch.  Heat mitigation will be an issue at 1000LM, so you might need some copper foil to wrap the P60 module in, before installing.

You may have to bore the body out to accommodate the 18650 cells, but you can buy the 16650 Sanyo 4.35v cells that fit just fine.

I went with a Redilast 3 mode 1.5A XM-L2 U2 drop in for my 6P and some protected Redilast (Sanyo) 4.30v 17670s for my 6P LED.
