Does anybody know if military style maps are available to the public and if so where to acquire them from?

The Fighting Falcons, definetly yes, but not sure what falcon view is. Ironic, but I'm not sure we're thinking of the same thing.

If it has nothing to do with Ft. Leonard Wood please disregard everything.

Falcon view is a program the military sometimes uses, it basically has the entire world mapped out in the program, and you can take any section you want and print out a MGRS map of that area.

I got you now  Used my Uber google skills to find out you were talking about F Company 795th MP's in Leonard Wood.  I was A/35th 21B (12B at the time) out of Leonard Wood!

USGS maps are the same without the military grid system and are available for popular recreation areas.

Thanks, found a site which pretty much allows you to download most areas.  I was searching for MGRS Maps, the USGS worked much better

It seems that any map with UTM grid would do as it is mostly pretty easy to mentally convert UTM to MGRS with practice... assuming they are based on the same datum...

So when a guy on the ground calls in coordinates to air support for a JDAM does he call it in MGRS or DMS or what?

I have various military maps of areas in Germany and some from the first Gulf War.  Not that it helps, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

NIMA maps are FOUO or LIMDIS.

Why not just use Civi versions like Google Maps or Earth?  Or do you need it for something else?

LOL, cool! What are the chances...I was F-795, and our plt. was the "death dealers" and the company was the "fighting falcons". Just wanted to check out the small chance you were one of my MN-born friends from back there. Kinda ironic that it was completely unrelated yet you were there anyways.
