| Ive heard of two ways of giving the middle finger. One with your thumb in, and one with your thumb out. My question is what does it mean when you give the middle finger with your thumb out? |
|
It means that you dont know how to give the finger. The middle finger originated from a time when the French ang English were fighting each other long ago. The English had the long bow and the French were pissed that they were kicking so much ass with them, so they declared that when they beat the English during that battle they would cut off the middle finger of all the long bowmen (the middle finger is needed to operate the long bow). Needless to say the French were beaten and at the next battle the English long bowmen waved their middle fingers at the French to piss them off. |
And this means you're very gullible.... |
And now everyone gets to give the french the finger. I know I do! Hey, is that story for real? |
| Im pretty sure it has a meaning, I was with a friend one time and someone gave us the finger and my friend asked me if the thumb was in or out, and I asked "why" and all he said was "nevermind." I just saw a movie where someone gave someone the middle finger and I started wondering about the thumb in or out thing again, and its driving me crazy. |
No. www.snopes.com/language/apocryph/pluckyew.htm |
Lemme have my fun |

As for the English longbowmen, snopes says it's false but their arguments against it have holes in them. www.snopes.com/language/apocryph/pluckyew.htm |
"Gullible"? That's not a real word. It's not in the dictionary.... |
LOL! They missed my old favorite, though. The Russian/Ukraininan F.U. (fist with thumb stuck between the middle and index fingers). |
Yes. That's why the re-re-telling of the English archer story being about just the Middle finger is mistaken bullshit. [I've got a great pic of Churchill giving this two-fingered gesture, but my free host has gone TU] |
