[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Micro dot (Page 1 of 2)

Can anybody recommend a relatively low budget micro dot for my dedicated AR 22LR? I'm already way over budget and don't really want to spend anymore money on it but I'd like to have a red dot. I've heard the Primary Arms micro dot thrown around on arfcom before but don't anything about them. I can't see spending $100 even on one so I'm not looking for a competition 3 gun level optic. Just something me and the kids can ink with. I'm shooting it now with Midwest buis. I'm looking for some GD wisdom here. I hope I'm not disappoint. Thanks, Matt.

The Primary Arms offerings are great across the board.  I think even if you went with the $79 micro dot, you'd be more than pleased.

+1 for the TRS 25.  Get a medium height UTG mount for $10 off of Amazon and you are good to go.

I've got 4 or 5 of the newer Primary Arms micro dot with the removable bases, they have held up well.

Primary arms...

I've had one on an AR, on a pistol, and on a shotgun for turkey season and have had good luck with them.

Plus they run specials all the time so watch for a good price on them and buy a couple.

Primary arms.  Specifically the push button one they sell for $169 or so.

The dot is extremely crisp and it's still NV capable.

I said I wasn't going to replace the other RDS's I've got on guns, but comparing them side by side I am taking that back.

I've run them hard in competition/courses on Kalashnikovs with an ultimak.   SMOKING hot and no issues at all.

i have 2 primary arms red dots. you cant go wrong with them for the price. the bushnell red dot seems to be popular here as well but i have no experience with bushnell and am only going off all the positive reviews i see here.

I gravitated to the push button micro from Primary Arms almost immediately but it's about double what I really planned on spending. At this point though it really doesn't matter.
ETA: And I'm a child of the '70's. what you "other" guys are talking about never crossed my mind! I guess I was way more sheltered than I thought. Getting drunk, fighting, and chasing puss was about as wild as I got. Well and street drag racing. That ain't really wild by any standard.
ETA II: No I didn't street race drunk!

You can get a PA micro plus their cowitness mount for $100

Get the PA. You'll be glad you did. I've had mine for about 5yrs with no issues, and I've banged it up pretty good.

Edit: I use a Larue QD HK hight mount on mine. Give's absolute co-witness. I can't comment on the quality of PA's mounts. Never did use it.

I have two of the original style PA microdots and I have no complaints with them whatsoever.

They're rugged as hell and hold zero. Well worth the price.
5/27/2015 1:50:58 PM EDT
[#31]
I'm digging on the PA micro at this point but still exploring the other options too. I got a feeling if I fo with the PA it's gonna be the push button although that blows my original intent completely outta the water. Trying to say no. Just say no. Do not need. Regular ol PA is fine.
Any way, for the mounts. I want a good co-witness to the Midwest splp buis I'm using now. They're the low profile ones. I don't know if I necessarily need a quick detach mount. I imagine once its on there and zeroed it'll pretty much stay on there most of the time if not always. The PA mounts are fine or do I need to look in a different direction?

Sad part about it? You'd shit a brick if you knew how much I had in it. I did when I added it up! I'm not gonna say either. Too embarrassing.

Plan on going with the Primary Arms at this point. I'm a little confused about the mount I guess. Do I need a different mount to co-witness? I didn't see any for sale on their website specifically for my set up. Maybe I'm trying too hard. Is that possible? I was always told I never tried hard enough.
