As my wife tells me I usually don't ever remember anything unless I want to, but what I actually want to know is what's the best way to free up some space on your computer? I've run scandisk, I've compressed C & H drive and run defrag. I've tried to clean out unwanted programs by just taking them to the recycle bin. Is this good enough?? What other steps can be taken to delete the garbage and keep the "meat"? PS: I know just enough about computers to get in trouble. Thanks.. Life is tough, it's tougher if you're stupid" |

'taking to the recycle bin'... do you mean you dragged the icon on your desktop to the recycle bin? This won't free any space. The program is still installed. You'd need to go to your control panel, open Add/Remove Programs, and remove the programs from there. THAT should get you some free space. |

Let me be the first to say...Buy a bigger harddrive!! Seriously, they are so cheap now, there is really no reason to run out of space. Ok, that sounded too much like something Mr. Gates would say. Sorry. Oh yeah, you want to uninstall programs, NOT just delete them. This will remove almost all traces of the prog. ByteTheBullet (-: |

Delete all the porno pics. [:D] How much do you want to free up? You can usually get a few megs by deleting the help files from Windows (.chm or .hlp) and you can delete the .wav files for the awful sound themes - but make sure you set your desktop theme to 'no sounds' before you delete the files. Also, delete your temporary internet files cache and the /windows/temp/ folder. You can do some advanced things as well like shrink the size of your page file memory that Windows uses for temporary swapping. THis will slow down your performance though. I am in agreement that you should just go get a new HD. You can get a 180 GB for around $200 now. |
