My doc gives me daypro to take 600mg twice a day. He forgot to tell me I should not consume beer with it and I got lazy and didn't read the information that comes with the drug. I consumed lots of beer last week and over the weekend and my stomach began to hurt. After reading up on the daypro, it can cause stomach bleeding.
What do I do? I stopped taking it on Sunday, but I still have some discomfort. I called the Dr office and left a call back message, but they never returned my call. Is there a safe amount of alcohol I can drink and not have stomach problems? Do I need to take medicaine to help my stomach heal? |

How's your poop?
eta I just read up on this one. It sucks. This medicine can also increase your risk of serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and gastrointestinal effects can occur without warning at any time while you are taking oxaprozin. Older adults may have an even greater risk of these serious gastrointestinal side effects. Call your doctor at once if you have symptoms of bleeding in your stomach or intestines. This includes black, bloody, or tarry stools, or coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds. Do not drink alcohol while taking oxaprozin. Alcohol can increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Daypro (oxaprozin) side effects Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking oxaprozin and seek medical attention or call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: * chest pain, weakness, shortness of breath, slurred speech, problems with vision or balance; * black, bloody, or tarry stools, coughing up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds; * urinating less than usual or not at all; * nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); * fever, sore throat, and headache with a severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash; or * bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness. |

It is that simple!

My poop was a little darker and had a greenish tint to it. I have not had beer since Monday. No Daypro since Sunday. My stomach is not as sore today as yesterday.
Maybe I am healing already? I was planning on going to a booze costume party on Saturday night. By then it will have been almost a week since I stopped taking the pills. Should it be OK by then? I have not puked blood or a coffee like substance. |

Okay, let me get this straight. Your doctor prescribed a medicine that is designed to stop pain and inflammation related to rheumatoid arthritis. Presumably, since you haven't mentioned any pain in your joints, the doc is trying to reduce swelling before it gets too bad and permanently cripples you. Then you don't follow his advice and drink while taking a drug that can have FATAL side effects when combined with alcohol. Then you stop taking the drug so you can go to a party and drink.
You basically are willing to accept being crippled by arthritis, accepting the pain from arthritis, or dying, just so you can get your drunk on?

Yall crack me up!
I stopped taking the drug because arthritis is not the problem. I got the rx to help with back pain, but appearantly I don't have arthritis in my back, so I stopped taking it. I posted this because I don't know what to do now. The drug should be out of my system, but what can I do to heal my tummy? Once the drug is out of my system can I start drinking, or do I need to wait until my stomach heals? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
