Meet Gus - The newest member of the Fox household. Gus is an 8 y/o, 19 hand high (see chart below) shire gelding draft horse. He rides and drives (pulls carts). He's about 6 inches short of being a record holder for largest horse. He's one of the biggest damn horses you will run across. As big as he is he's calm and collected and likes people. He was raised right. He and I will be working on getting to know each other this summer. I plan to mainly ride him on trails. Bonuses would be using him for search and rescue and parade use. Whatever's fun.
I'm 6'2"
Size for reference
Bonus: I also raise sheep. This girl was born the same day I some of the above pics were taken
I was going to make this post sooner or later but Aimless' thread prompted me to get off my butt (or get on my butt as I'm busy outside lately). https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1619512_May_is_officially_Don_t_be_a__________in_GD_and_go_outsde_month.html ETA - Total animal count here: 2 dogs, 5 adult sheep, 7 lambs, 1 horse, 1 human (hello ladies!), and various wild animals |

How long of a girth you going to have to have to saddle up? Also cool ass horse. The previous owner was using a 52 inch girth. I don't think thats big enough and was going to measure him to get a proper fit. Its been raining this week so haven't done so yet. Pretty sure the saddle I have will work though. |

Judging by the orientation of his shoulders in that picture, he's bent kinda funny. Which explains why his butt is all jutting out and impudent or whatever. Quoted:

Are you wearing a diaper? Judging by the orientation of his shoulders in that picture, he's bent kinda funny. Which explains why his butt is all jutting out and impudent or whatever. I was building fences that day and my pockets are full of tools. |

We have a cat named Gus. He only has three legs. One back leg was amputated at the hip joint. He also has epilepsy and has to take doses of phenobarbitol every day. So he just lays around stoned and stares at his paws most of the time. http://i60.tinypic.com/1zwjng7.jpg Simpsons reference - Otto - They call them fingers but I never see them fing. |

Good looking horse and lamb. What do you think that horse weighs? Good on you OP for being an animal person. I am in my late 40's now and find I like animals more and more. Most of the time they are better then people Agree on the animal part. I have a husky and malamute to keep me company inside the house. They want to chase the sheep and they like horses. While this is just an estimate we figure Gus is about 2250lbs. Least thats what everyone else tells me. |
