I'm taking a math placement test on Sunday, and I haven't taken a math class in....um...(does some math)....a lotta (at least 8) years.

Anybody know of a good crash review course for this kind of thing?  This is for pre-engineering type stuff, so something up to and including pre-calc (which I did in high school back when telephones were tethered to walls) would be nice.  I don't need to totally kick ass, I just need to not get placed in the remedial class.

Was hoping that my old university put online the courses that they offered to bring incoming freshmen quickly up to calculus level; however, no such luck. I did find some free courses at math

I am not sure if those will help. Good luck.

Yeah, that's why I have two degrees in history, which is consequently why I'm trying to get a degree in something that requires math.

How long have you known that this test was coming?

If you have not taken any math in that long, then take the test cold turkey. It will be worth it in the long run to have to take a class or two to get you back up tp speed before you start in on the real math. I would not want to do good on a test just so I could be half lost and struggling during my first math course, ya know what I mean?

No banana.  I was pretty decent at math back in high school, I've just had a long gap.  The minimum class I need to get into is Basic Technical Math I, and I'm not interested in wasting a semester or two learning that a^2+b^2=c^2.  I just need some refresher stuff.

As for how long I've known about it, this all came up rather suddenly so I'm making do the best I can.

Update:  Went in cold anyway and placed into Precalc II.  Guess I retained more than I thought I did.  Although the Trig section was a bit of a bloodbath.

Good job. I had been out of HS for 14 years when I went back. I placed into Algebra 1 . That actually surprised me lol. Now i'm about to take calculus.

Things wouldn't be so bad if math people weren't creepy or just plain terrible at teaching.

Yeah, the sin/cos/tan stuff killed me.  I remember doing it in HS, but damned if I remember how it goes now.  There was even a question about logarithms!
