I was watching FMJ (for the 5000th time) the other night and came up with some questions. Another member here commented about the movie in a thread and I didn't want to hijack it with my questions, so I started this thread. I was never in the military...(Only thing in my life I regret) Here's a few questions that I remember: If you carried an M79, did you also have a sidearm? Who carries sidearms (other than Officers), grenades, extra ordnance? I heard Marine Corps DI's are specifically trained in "DI Speak" in DI School. No other DI's or TI's speaks like them...True? And now for the new Marines, I hear cadence has been cleaned up in the Army and Air Force..What about the Corps? I can't think of the other questions..If I do, I'll follow up... Edited to add a couple of S's..My mistake..I knew that too..Why I didn't do it? I dunno...  |

Since I'm not an old timer I can only clarify a couple things. The gunner for the SMAW, m240g, etc (crew served weapons) carry sidearms. Basically the people who already got a lot of junk to carry. Also corpsmen, for self defense. Basically just anyone who already has a bunch of shit to worry about, they carry pistols. There are lots of exceptions, including non-combat gents who don't want a rifle. Uhm, you can be sure that Drill Instructors have a unique way of talking. Cadence cleared up? Hell no. Also, there's an s at the end of Corps. It's a Corps of fighting men, not a corporation. Have a good one. |

some Marines also rate pistols based on their MOS like radio carriers etc. as a general rule if you get a rifle you get a bayonet, if you get a pistol you get a kabar DI's do learn their own language based mostly on the need to avoid cursing. DIs are hyper aware of their surroundings. dirty cadences and cursing comes out when the platoon is away from the main training areas and the DIs are confident they wont get busted. Weapons Blt. Crucible, and BWT are areas where i remember the gloves coming off. Marines do not sing cadence while marching like the army does, only while running in formation. |
