The bathtub wouldn't drain when my girlfriend took a shower this morning. She took the strainer off the drain and poked around a bit before telling me. Of course she used one of my knives instead of a screwdriver, and buggered up both it and the screw. I spent half an hour with a plunger, coat hanger and drain opener before I realized that the drain was closed. |
Hey, we gotta' make our money somewhere, eh? Do you know how many friggen service calls I've been on for a "broken receptacle" just to charge 'em $65 to flip the swith to the half-hot? The funniest thing is that I always ask them if they are 100% certain there is no switch going to it before I ever schedule them! "Sir, do you have a switch that turns no lights on or off, and does the receptacle work if said switch is in the on position?" "Nope." "Are you sure?" "Yes! Now can you fix this broken plug or not?" "Yes, sir. I will be there at XXXXX on XXXXX." ME: Pull recep. Go to wall. Turn switch on. Put recep back in. 10 minutes later: "Thank you for choosing our services, sir. That will be $65 for the service call, and I have marked the switch controlling this receptacle with blue tape until you and your wife have it memorized. Remember, if it doesn't control anything, it controls something. For another $65 I will be happy to identify and mark the rest of your half-hots in the home so this confusion does not occur again." Put my boots back on and leave with check in hand (I don't wear boots in customers' homes)
