So, been in a line unit for a while, learned a lot, on deployment now and looking to the future. Kinda pissed I didn't go to 'Ghani.
I want to step my game up. Getting tired of being around some of the bags, the people who don't care, the ones who are content with stagnation. Lots of good people here tired down with a slow and often failing chain of command. So... I know I can handle the administrative and contractual side of the house. Now I need to know how else I can improve physically and mentally before I attempt such a move. Physically, what are some cardio/weight routines that build endurance while not injuring? Used to get shin splints, and had a stress fracture a while ago. I'm thinking that just weights and building mass won't help nearly as much as running and with weight. Problem is, I'm not the best physical specimen to ever walk, and need a starting point. I do get a 1st Class PFT, but I'm willing to do better. I do know some MCWIS guys in Pendleton that would be willing to help me swim better. CWS-2 is a breeze. I want to do better. What is the emphasis on in A&S? Land nav? Swimming? Technically, what do I need to have down pat before A&S? Who do I need to talk to in order to get the process rolling? I know one Master Sgt. floating around Pendleton that's supposedly a MARSOC recruiter. The more connections and advice, the better. From the Sandbox, thanks in advance. S/F |

If you're at Pendleton, go down to Los Flores and talk to the SgtMaj. Their building is right on the big curve as you pass through Los Flores.
It ain't all about swimming, running or hiking, although those are important. It's about mental toughness, heart, maturity, dependability, intestinal fortitude, etc., the things they can't really teach you. MARSOC Recruiting Link Email: [email protected] |

ahhhh Las Flores.
It has been a long time sinc eI have been there. Good to know they kept the HQ there when FORCE went MARSOC ?? goodluck. I will tell you if it is anything like the old INDOC - Get ready for a TEST of physical toughness/endurance - then the interviews.... not looking for the KILL KILL - Iwant to be a Killer type. They want A type personalities that are PROFESSIONAL. Not just line unit guys and not the typical "Big Head" "EGO" that you think of in Seal teams, etc. |
