Thinking out loud, by the time it happens the AW ban issue will have happened a month before. We will either have it or we won't.

If we have a Dem headed for the white house the AW ban or the immigration issue may well have put him in place.

The upside to a Dem win is they will now be responsible for the economy (much like Arnold has to clean up Davis' mess in Kali). If they don't that Dem will probably be a one termer.

The BIG downside is that Dem is probably gonna be John Kerry and from what I've seen he is the most distateful of the bunch which almost guarantees him the Democratic party nomination. John Kerry is pretty much Ted Kennedy and thinks he's John Kennedy.

And if we don't have a assault weapon ban renewal prior to the election you will again have a president willing to sign. However I don't know how many members of congress want to gamble their careers on this issue.

If John Kerry offers John Edwards the VP that will probably be the ticket. I'd personally prefer Edwards in the drivers seat but I don't see that happening.

And in a Kerry vs. Bush election I think we are gonna see another 50/50 split with the loser screaming "FIX!" and declaring another stolen election.

Basically the conservatives will be voting for Anyone BUT Kerry and the liberals will be voting for Anyone BUT Bush since neither candidate is particularly endearing.

To guarantee victory Bush will pretty much have to pull Osama out of his ass in November.

I think it is gonna be a close one.

Did Gore? Hell he didn't even carry his home state and it was still damn near 50/50.

By the same token I don't see Bush getting Kalifornia,

I can't see anything good coming out of this ether way.

Bush wins and he'll think that his massive increases in government spending and pandering for votes with things like immigration “reform” and the drug plan were what won him the election and we can expect 4 more years of it.

One of the dwarfs wins and it will be the same thing, just more of it.  The only possible saving grace is a Republican majority in Congress to stonewall a lot of the Democratic bullshit.

The Federal government needs to be reined in, HARD, and the only way to do that is gridlock it so they can do minimal damage since there's not a politician in existence that will do more than pay lip service to the idea of smaller government.

No mater how things end up,  ultimately it is not going to be good for this nation and its citizens.

I think the election is going to be heavily influenced by current events.

If there is a terrorist attack resulting in mass loss of life in the US or of servicemembers in Iraq, GWB is going to have a tough go of it.

Otherwise, I think Kerry is pissing in the wind.

Think Johnny_Reno said it right, it is very much going to be determined by 'current' events.  I suspect that if things can get better in Iraq (or at least that there is an appearance of continuing progress) and the economy + job #'s continue to improve---I would bet that Bush will win.  That said, it certainly won't be any landslide----the Democrats REALLY hate Bush---they are energized and I think they are going to work on turning out the "base"------liberals, 'different' sexual types, minorities, government employees, union members, etc., "Big Time".

They hate Bush almost as much as we hated Clinton, and that bitchnugget got four more years.

This is always so frustrating to me, people who say "the upside of a Democrat in office is they will have to....".  Very naive way of thinking.  There is so much power in the Presidency that they are practically God and can break many laws just by a stroke of the pen (executive orders).  They also appoint all judges and we are finding out now that most of Clinton's appointees were worse than Carters.  There is a reason the Dems are trying so hard to get back the presidency...they know the huge amount of power the office has, and they want to use that power against you.

You mean like Bush Sr's 89 Import Ban which was another piece of 'stroke of the pen' legislation?

This is always so frustrating to me, people who think the Republicans are automatically a guarantee that things will be better.

Bush Jr., who I voted for and had the highest hopes for, has conducted himself much like a liberal Democrat in so many ways I don't see him as being too different.

I'm not a hardliner or beholden to any camp, I'm an American who doesn't feel represented.

If the Republicans want my vote, they better damn well act like it. Until then I will look at the big picture  and the best and worst of any possible outcome.

Bush is flirting with the middle and the left and fucking us conservatives.  The war in Iraq was BS; I don't give a flying fuck how bad Sadam was.  He didn't present any more of a clear and present danger than North Korea, China, Syria, Iran or 6 million illegal immigrants pouring over our borders.  That "traitor" Scott Ritter (USMC) was right all along.  I've lost more friends and family to drunken illegal Mexicans than any Iraqis, etc., etc.  BTW: I have Hispanic friends that I'd fight and die for.  If Bush signs or otherwise supports the AWB, he can kiss my fucking ass.  I'll write in Pat Buchannon.  PS. Don't be an Uncle Tom to a liberal masquerading as a Republican.  GOD DAMN that felt good!

The economy is on the rise so any dem that wins in Nov will simply come along and claim credit...
The fact of the matter is that this past recession  was the result of a rapid increase in interest rates as well as a normal reset of the economy after a prolonged period of economic growth. IOW, it was inevitable. Even healthy. But you won't convince most of that fact.

If GW loses in Nov it will be because he alienated his conservative base and many lukewarm voters won't vote at all as a result. I am extremely unlikely to vote for president this year. Piss on all of 'em.

Kerry is an absolute menace to our way of life. At least to a decent, free way of life. He is the greatest threat out of that bunch, IMO. The question really is whether or not he would be better or worse than Hilary in '08.

The '04 pres election is going to be one of the most divisive in american history and could be extremely offensive, with the dust taking years to settle. I give GW 50% chance of winning. Maybe.
