A Friend of mine came over today bored out of his mind and comes up with the idea that we should kill time by learning how to Pick Locks.
So I went around my house and gathered as many locks as I could muster then we sat and made our tools. We used Uni-ball pen clips and booby pins and followed some simple youtube how to video's to learn the basics. I have seriously spent the last 8 hours learning how to pick locks I even when to the local Spy store (more of a kids shop) and bought a basic set of tools for $20 dollars. I'm pretty good now I can pick a Masterlock #1 in less the 5 seconds and same with a #3. I have another Master lock which I don't know the model number but it has 5 pins which makes it a bit more difficult and can normally get it under 20 seconds. Those TSA locks are a joke some have 2 pins most have 3 and are extremely easy. This is surprisingly fun anybody else do this? |

I recently saw some shit on the news about key bumping, if you don't know what it is look into it because any normal pin style lock that isn't "bump-proof" can be bumped, and its quick. I made a bump key that I carry in my wallet, I don't want to be called a thief or anything but I like having a key that works in everything I own in case I loose a key.

My name's not worth mentioning? Pshaww. I've been having real good luck with the clip from a Uniball pen and a bobby pin. I have my Masterlock No. 5 down no problem, but I'm still working on this dial Masterlock with the spring and shit. No your not because it is 3 a.m. and I'm still up trying to pick this door lock and its all your fault

Tag for when you guys get busted for burglary tools and wonder why you're in trouble. Ahh, I see the California spirit is doing well! ETA: Most commercial locks *suck*. The vast majority are bumpable, even of those that are "bump proof". Locks keep honest folks honest, no more, no less. |

The other day I was taking some stuff in from my trunk and realized how suspicious the contents would have looked. I had bolt cutters, duck tape, rope, a tarp, and a big box of lye all in there. I might as well have put it all in a big box and labeled it "murder kit". I had them in there for two or three different projects (all legit), but damn could it have looked bad to the wrong people! ![]() |

I own dozens if not hundreds of tools that could be used in a criminal manner, does that make me a mob boss? |

Don't shoot the messenger, pal... just letting you know that you can get in deep kimshi carrying around a bump key in your wallet. |

Tag for when you guys get busted for burglary tools and wonder why you're in trouble. I have no reason to carry them around with me. Unless someone kicks in my door and searchs the place I don't see how I could get introuble. Besides if I where to carry around "Burglar tools" I wouldn't bring the tool kit when I'm just as good with a bobby pin and a pen cap and I can't see how that could get you in any trouble. It's more of a hobby |

I've been picking for years. Just decided to try to get really good and have invested the time in collecting 100+ different locks to start working on.
Built a little stand that has 8 double sided deadbolts and room for dozens of padlocks, also going to put some other locks on it. It’s a fun challenge. |

It's more of a hobby Yeah, it's a great way to kill time. I can get my Masterlock No. 5 in less than 5 seconds pretty much every time I try now. Still no luck on my combo lock though. I also found what looks to be a door lock just laying around in my basement that I've been fooling around with all day. |

I started in the mid-1980s when I locked myself out of my house. My neighbor worked as a locksmith. He came over and opened my door in a few seconds with a pick and tension tool. He showed me how to use them and I was amazed at how simple they are to use. I was also amazed that locks can be defeated so quickly. I bought a set of tools and practiced. It didn't take long before I could open doors, padlocks, and cabinet locks. I had problems with double sided locks (pins on the top and bottom). Combo locks were the easiest because of shims. |

I've been trying to do the combo lock without a shim. There's a keyhole on the back of it for a key. Any tips for that? |
| I remember when I was around 11 or 12 my mom let me order a bunch of those Delta Press books out of the National Enquirer classifieds. One of them was Lock Picking Simplified. I also got Counterfeit ID Made Easy and Methods of Disguise. Never could talk her into letting me order a set of picks though. Always thought it would be a neat skill to have. |
