Got some time this weekend to play the xwing table top game with my son. I highly recommend it. There is also a ww2 version with fighter planes. Also got a hold of the wife's new camera (D7100 with the 18-50mm lense) and had a chance to try it out. Rules can be very simple or complex as you want. We watered them down a bit because we like to play with lots of ships at once.

Is that a V-38 TIE in the blurry background? Nice. |

Ah, the cloaking prototype.
The original V38 Intercrptor was faster (slightly) than a TIE Defender, carried twin lasers, triple ion cannons, 10 missiles, and two simgle warhead hardpoints generally reserved for massive heavy bombs. |

I've been wanting to get that for the house, but I'm buried up in Games Workshop boxed games that I already don't have enough time to assemble, much less play. How fast is the gameplay? We got this for all us for christmas because I too have boxes and boxes of GW to build. This requires no painting or building. We we playing 15 minutes after opening the package. |

I just picked the core game myself this weekend; had to talk myself out of spending a lot of $$ on ships. I've played X-Wing and Armada several times with friends; both are a lot of fun. I lucked out on the xtra ships. The hobby shop about an hour away has a month sale from dec1-31 every year where you buy 2 items you get the 3rd free. That's how I wound up with all the GW stuff still on my shelf to build from the year before. |

I hit up a couple shops on Sat (National tabletop gaming day) and both were running Xwing events. Learned to play and between raffles, sales and a guy getting rid of stuff, I walked out with 2 starter sets (one orig and one force awakens), 2 extra x-wings, a e-wing, u-wing and orig Aluminum Falcon and was out about 65 bucks plus 10 for a plano box to hold it all.
Unfortunately, it's at least a hour and a half drive to the nearest place so I'm trying to find local players to build a group. I did find a website that does tabletop gaming online through something called Vassal, but haven't signed up. And what is up with Magic players? The first store I went to, one side of the room were xwing players, normal looking guys with their kids, everyone polite and friendly, good hygiene, star wars tshirts the most obvious feature. Other side of the room was... Magic players. Dozens of neckbeards, screaming, food being thrown and the smell..... |
