I've got a samsung np470, that has two 4gb ram slots. The computer is just over a year old.

Recently it did the "computer comes on, monitor doesn't turn on"....im not a computer guy, but I ran through a few tutorials and found that it wasn't the battery or screen.

So I came to a RAM tutorial, I took one of the cards out, and boom the computer boots up, runs, really no problem than slightly slower...but barely noticeable.

I reinsert that same card and it will not come on....so i've come to the conclusion either that card is bad or worse, the slot is bad.

I don't have alot of memory used, and I don't run anything more than youtube or a few models for work...not really a gaming computer or anything, IF it turns out to be

the RAM card and not the slot, I was thinking about just going and getting two 8gb cards and being done with it....if it turns out to be the slot, guess ill just drop it off at the tech guys

input guys, thanks

You could try switching slots with the ram to check the slot.

RAM is not usually called a card, it is a stick of RAM or more technically a DIMM. A card inside a computer usually refers to an add-on card, such as an after-market video card, or after-market network card, etc.

It is like calling it a clip instead of a magazine  Also ram slots in the motherboard almost never go bad, it is much more likely to be a bad DIMM.

There is a program called 'Task Manager', or taskmgr.exe, which can show you how much memory your computer is using. If you never get above say, 2 GB of RAM usage, having two 8gb memory sticks is a waste, but it won't hurt anything.

RAM is fairly inexpensive.  I'd at least go with one 8GB stick

Verify that your motherboard supports 8GB sticks before you buy them....

it supports the 8gb...but needs to have two identical pieces not one 4 and one 8...the memory in task is also about 50%

with just the one 4gb piece in
