Let's get it right people. Freedom does not 'RING'. The phrase is not 'let freedom RING'. The phrase is 'let freedom REIGN' The appropriate definition: Reign, v. - to predominate; be prevalent, to have control, rule, or influence of any kind. It' just annoys me, because saying 'let freedom ring' is, well, ignorant. |
Are you sure about that? What phrase are you quoting? www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/m/c/mctisoft.htm |

There have been many wars On the shores of liberty The losses have been much But the cause will always be There's a flag that still stands It will never fall So it's time for one and all To answer freedom's call Let freedom reign Shine the light of day And guide us on our way Let freedom reign Drive the clouds away And let the sun shine through The red, white and blue I am proud to stand tall As those who've done before Find More lyrics at www.sweetslyrics.com The stars n' stripes will be my pride And in God I am assured Though the battle may be lost And though the fortress may fall We will rise to build again Cause victory is our end Let freedom reign Shine the light of day And guide us on our way Let freedom reign Drive the clouds away And let the sun shine through The red, white and blue Let freedom reign Let freedom reign And let the sun shine through The red, white and blue http://www.sweetslyrics.com/86351.American%20Patriotic%20Songs%20-%20Let%20Freedom%20Reign.html |
My country, ’tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, Of thee I sing; Land where my fathers died, Land of the pilgrims’ pride, From every mountainside, Let freedom ring! My native country, thee, Land of the noble free, Thy name I love; I love thy rocks and rills, Thy woods and templed hills; My heart with rapture thrills, Like that above. No more shall tyrants here With haughty steps appear, And soldier bands; No more shall tyrants tread Above the patriot dead— No more our blood be shed By alien hands. Let music swell the breeze, And ring from all the trees, Sweet freedom’s song; Let mortal tongues awake; Let all that breathe partake; Let rocks their silence break, The sound prolong. Our fathers’ God, to Thee, Author of liberty, To Thee we sing; Long may our land be bright With freedom’s holy light; Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King. From the link posted. |
I would think that 'freedom' by definition couldn't 'rule' or 'reign'. Shane |
