Rosa DeLauro for being “uninformed” Monday after the Connecticut Democrat completely lost it and suggested he drink weed killer during a heated congressional budget hearing. DeLauro, the purple-haired ranking member of the House Appropriations Committee, argued that Zeldin’s budget proposal “reads like a climate change denier’s manifesto” as she asked the EPA chief to “justify abandoning [the EPA’s] duty to protect Americans” from climate change. Zeldin, a Republican former New York congressman, wasn’t having it. “Following the law,” he responded. “Section 202 of the Clean Air Act. Where does it say anything about fighting global climate change?” DeLauro, 83, remained silent. “Loper Bright. Supreme Court case. Are you familiar with it?” Zeldin asked. The flustered congresswoman admitted she was ignorant of the case but argued that Zeldin didn’t have “the right to say climate change does not exist, that it’s a hoax, and that’s where this administration is coming from.” “I know you’re upset. You don’t know what Loper Bright is. Do you know what the major policies doctrine is?” Zeldin challenged DeLauro, adding, “You’re a member of Congress, you should know.” DeLauro snapped after Zeldin rattled off a couple more major Supreme Court cases of which the Democratic lawmaker appeared unaware. “Whoa. You know, you’re here because you need money from us,” she screamed, wagging her finger at the Trump administration official. “So halt for this second and wait for the question and answer the question!” Zeldin insisted that he answered the question and accused the congresswoman of being “somebody who likes the microphone on” but doesn’t actually read federal statutes. “I don’t have to listen to this BS!” DeLauro raged. “BS? You think I made up these cases?” Zeldin shot back. “Yeah, I think you have made up a whole lot,” DeLauro responded. Later in the hearing, when things appeared to settle down a bit, DeLauro accused the Trump EPA of not doing enough to go after polluters. Zeldin opened up his binder and started comparing the Trump administration’s enforcement actions to the Biden administration’s when DeLauro interjected. “Glyphosate,” she said, referring to the active ingredient in the pesticide Roundup. Zeldin advised that if the congresswoman’s cup was filled with glyphosate, she should not drink it. To which DeLauro responded, “Maybe you should try doing that.” |

That was absolutely glorious and shameful. Glorious in that Zeldin took her to the woodshed and reminded her of her responsibilities and basic qualifications to be a Representative. Namely, familiarity with the law...as a law maker. Shameful in that it's obvious DeLauro has occupied that seat merely as a sock puppet for her entire professional life. These congress people (like DeLauro, Schumer, etc) who have done nothing other than occupy seats in Congress are a blight - they have no idea what it means to build a business or the ramifications of the statutes they champion on said businesses. |

I have family in DC who work in the ag lobby sector, they've been following these meetings and we were discussing it on the phone yesterday. Their complaints were similiar, but both parties have their share of people who don't know what the fuck they are arguing for or against. Republican and democrat. There was some republican from Georgia on tv and mispronouncing glyphosate, wasn't even close. We're not talking southern thawg or drawl. He was calling it gly phosphate. Two words and adding syllables. They just look ignorant as fuck. They either aren't listening to their staffers or their staffers suck as well. Go talk to your constituents, google has been trained to give you curated answers. |

That merciless beatdown was almost... almost... painful to watch. She was just embarrassing and beclowning herself by the end, as she desperately tried to cling to her talking points. She tried to go for a Democrat talking points gotcha soundbite, and it failed spectacularly. What is really sad and depressing is; the people of her district will have no problem, even if they happen to see that video, re-electing her. And most will do so gladly.  Just another example of the dysfunctional state of both the voters and the politicians they elect. |
