Would keeping the moisture content underneath the slab more constant throughout the year make a difference? Are there drain tiles around the perimeter of the foundation? Is there a sump pump? Etc…

You have my sympathies. I once lived in a house that needed to be piered. Very expensive when done correctly.

You install a crack isolation membrane between the concrete and tile. For your situation I would use ditra mat which is an uncoupling isolation membrane. google it for more info. Any questions IM me.

I am another one jumping in with the Schluter ditra uncoupling membrane. Also, if you're a diy, pickup John Bridge's book Tiling your world.
