Kidney removel, I think, is pretty standard nowadays. You might have to cut back on your drinking tho.

One of the few organs where we have a spare, my uncle is going on 20 years with only one. He'll die of something else like old age the way it's going.

Sorry about the bad news. Prayers sent.

Prognosis can be very good, especially if it's confined to the kidney.

My father was diagnosed with kidney cancer 5 years ago. The diseased kidney was removed. He'll be 86 in a couple of weeks and doing pretty good for his age. Prayers sent..

Yup.
A few years ago I started peeing blood.  The blood was real thick, like jelly.  Had to strain to get it out.  Not that much pain though.
Anyway, went to the emergency room and they thought I was passing a kidney stone but scheduled me for a CT scan a few days later.
The scan showed some sort of mass on my left kidney.
The mass turned out to be a cancerous tumor so the kidney and one rib were removed.
Fortunately for me the cancer hadn't spread to any other organs and I'm doing ok today.
The surgery wasn't all that bad and I think I was in the hospital for only three days.
Got a couple weeks off from work and a bitchin scar on my left side.
You'll be fine.

Cancer in any form is a real wake up call. I'd rank it even higher up there than marriage and just about a child being born as a life changing event. People deal with it in so many ways.  Some go health nut, some get medically informed (obsessive), and some just freak out.

Those that take SOME KIND OF CONTROL over something they were not addressing previously: like diet, personal relationships, faith-related action, do much better.

They'll pull the kidney, you'll think healthy, and you'll be fine. Thank God for medicine in 2007.

Lost a kidney to renal cell carcinoma in 2000.  Small cell kidney cancer will show up in the lungs as nodules.  Had one nodule removed in 2006 and one removed in 2007.  There are drugs approved by the FDA, this means that healthcare agencies will pay for them, that can put the cancer into remission.  I am awaiting word on what's next for me.  Good luck with your treatment.  Things are changing all the time in the treatment of all cancer types.

Okay, Take a deep breath... relax.  Easy to say, hard to do.

I was diagnosed with renal cell in 1991. It had not spread to adjacent tissue, so they removed it. Big honkin scar across the belly, 5 days in the hospital, because I couldn't shake a fever. Overall, not fun, but not too bad.

I had a re-occurrence in 1993 in the lung. Only lost a small chunk and have been free of this cancer since. You'll have repeat x-rays  for years, and waiting on the results willbe pretty stressful. however, I know about half a dozen people who have had the same thing and lived long lives after.
If you want more info PM or email.
Prayers are with you. God bless.
