Got pulled over cop said i was doing 57 in a 40 told him i wasn't an that my speedometer said 40mph and my GPS said 39 he took my insurance and DL guess he ran it then came back didn't give me a ticket and he let me go.
So i think my GPS just save my ass, I know you can pull location data with a time stamp as to where i was and at what time. I also think you can pull speed data as well. I have the Garmin nuvi 780i and it can tell me my speed so it has to log it somewhere an i think the cop knew it so he let me go. I have no idea why he would let me go for 17 over with only a verbal warning Anyway so is there any software that can allow me to pull the data from the GPS or do i have to send it off to someone. Going to be contacting my lawyer in the morning. I know i left a lot of info out but i have a reason and no it is not because I'm hiding anything ETA: Not planning on SUEING anyone. Why talk to a lawyer you ask? I don't feel filing a complaint will go anywhere and i would rather spend $1200 on my lawyer and make sure something is done than have this happen to someone else. I care about my rights and yours and if it cost me a little bit of money so what. UPDATE: I have a friend who works for this PD he told me to file a complaint an that this officer has a history of doing this kind of thing. I was told he likes to pull people over and say they were doing like 15-20MPH over the speed limit. While he goes fishing for DUI or drugs. If he dosn't think you have any thing he lets you go with a warning. Also he said that rarely do people complain because they were just let go for a bs ticket. Now for the rest of the story. If he doesn't think you have any thing he lets you go with a warning. Also he said that rarely do people complain because they were just let go for a BS ticket. Now for the rest of the story. I had just left the hospital where my baby girl was born on April 7th. I was heading home to get a change of clothes and a shower. When I turned out onto the main road I didn't see any other cars. I was not at a red-light just a stop sign to which I stopped at. After I had made my turn I saw flashing blue lights approaching me at what I would say is a high rate of speed. About 1/4 of a mile from where I turned onto the main road from the hospital is the main road leading to the hospital with is a 4-way intersection with a red-light. The light was red and I was slowing down as I approached it and moving over one lane as to not be in the officers way as he was in my lane ( at this point I thought he was responding to an emergency) as I change lanes so did he so I figured he was going to pull me over so I turned down the main road to the hospital and pulled over so as not to block the intersection. He approached my truck on the passenger side asked me how I was doing and for my license and insurance to which I gave him. Then he asked me if I knew how fast I was going and I told him my speedometer said 40MPH and my GPS said 39MPH (I had just happened to look at my GPS to see what the name of main road leading to the hospital was so I would remember to turn on it when I came back and my speed is real-time updated and is never off +/- 1 or 2 Mph) to which he said he clocked me at 57 which was 17 Mph over the posted speed limit. Then he started to ask questions about where I was coming from and where I was going and why I was out so late had a been drinking or using drugs. To which I told him that none of that information pertained to the stop (WTF does this prick need to know this information for it is none of his fucking business) he this asked me if I had any weapons in my truck and I told him Mississippi law does not require me to inform him if I have any weapons in my vehicle. So he went back to his car ran my license then came back handed me my license and insurance told me he was going to give me a verbal warning and let me go. At no time was I speeding nor did I break any laws. This POS was fishing for drunks and lying about why he had stopped me then let me off with a verbal warning in hopes that I would feel lucky I didn't get a BS ticket and would just let it go away. Also this cop stopped my lawyers daughter a month earlier with the same BS. And I still have no intentions of sueing just want this cops job. |

The GF had an older car with an inaccurate speedometer. She stated she was doing the speed limit. The officer got her on radar at 11mph over the limit. I used two GPS devices and to her belief she was doing the correct speed.
Produced this in court and the judge said that GPS units are not reliable in obtaining a correct speed. ![]()

They took it cars with gps and downloaded the data from them. Also if the dealership says that there is nothing wrong with my speedometer then the GPS must be right. |

Not enough info OP......pretty sure GPS doesn't update that often. You might want to check on that. If you were truly going 40 when he "clocked you at 57", and you are doing something about it, then good on you. If not, shame on you. |

I doubt you can pull your speed from a GPS. My GPS displays Average, Max, moving average, and total time, but I don't really see a point of storing your speed for any kind of long term use. My GPS tells me my speed as I'm moving and it also gives me overall avg. moveing avg and max speed. and it is very accurate when driving a constant speed +/- 1MPH unless I'm accelerating then it is +/- 4mph, |

I got pulled over in FL for speeding. The officer wrote the speed limit 10 mph SLOWER than it actually was ( The speed he wrote doesnt actually exsist anywhere on that road) and wrote me 10mph faster than I was going. I literally will not go faster than 5 mph over the limit. I always use cruise control , have a GPS in the truck and generally am not that type of driver. Especially with 2 race motors in the bed , some VERY expensive sets of cylinder heads on the back bench seat and multiple other parts for the race car in the truck.
I wound up getting out of it but I was SO insulted by that dishonest piece of shit. In all walks of life you will meet people who are generally just pieces of shit. You cant let that reflect on an organization as a whole and you really cant let it get under your skin. Although in my case I was so mad I called in every string I could pull. I wanted him FIRED for being a rude , fat , lieing , obnoxious and disrespectful piece of crap. So I feel your pain. BTW the only other ticket Ive gotten in the last 17 years was in a 1979 mack dump truck with a broken speedometer and that was for 5mph over the limit right

Holy fucking shit. He gave you a warning. Even if you could prove that he was lying(and you can't), what do you expect to accomplish by contacting a lawyer? Do you think he is going to be stupid enough to waste his time on that frivolous garbage?
I'll save you a phone call and the bill from the lawyer. In order to successfully sue someone, you have to demonstrate that something he did something that caused you harm. As it is, it would look to a judge like he did you a favor by cutting you a break on what could be a pretty expensive ticket. What are you suing for, the value of your wasted time? |

I know i left a lot of info out but i have a reason and no it is not because I'm hiding anything
Hope you can put 2 and 2 together I'm leavening out details because cops look at these forums and i'm contacting my lawyer in the morning. I will update with full details after i talk to my lawyer depending on where we take this and if we can do anything about this. You omitted infomation in your post. You may or may not have been speeding. You did NOT get a ticket, yet you're still going to visit your attorney. Your punctuation is terrible. What did I miss? I think you missed reading comp 101 I omitted information yes but this information left out were think like him asking where i was going and so on nothing related to the stop. I never said i may or may have not been speeding i said and i quote "Got pulled over cop said i was doing 57 in a 40 told him i wasn't an that my speedometer said 40mph and my GPS said 39" And if my grammar is not up to your standard i don't care. Actually, I have very little college myself, but I grasp the basics. Also, If I weren't willing to post the entire incident, I wouldn't post just a part of the incident. As you can see, that action leaves too many questions asked. Don't get pissy when the bullshit flag is raised if you can't/won't give the whole story. |

If the OP was really doing the speed limit, then "getting let go with a warning" and being happy about it is a steaming crock of shit. People here who think he shouldn't be pissed for getting pulled over when doing nothing wrong are all kinds of fucked up. i'd be pissed too, BUT, since op posted that he was going to see a lawyer, i think anyone reasonable would take that as if the op wants to now sue the department. how about just calling the dept and making a complaint. i think op was hoping for buttloads of responses encouraging a one man stand against his local p.d. |

People here who think he shouldn't be pissed for getting pulled over when doing nothing wrong are all kinds of fucked up. If the OP really was doing the speed limit then he has a legitimate case for being annoyed. The part that doesn't make any sense is his plan to contact a lawyer to take action on it. That's just plain stupid. The cop didn't do anything but waste his time(assuming that the OP really wasn't speeding) which sure as hell isn't grounds for a lawsuit. It isn't even something that would be taken seriously as a complaint. So what did this verbal warning consist of anyway? |
