Arfians;

The other day I was thinking (Oh noze!  Hide the wimmen-folks! ), and I concluded that, as a quick litmus test, you can tell alot about someone based on which of these two performers they like better.  The parallels between the two men are pretty uncanny:  both came out about the same time, both made a fortune on their musical talent alone, both hetro white guys, both solo acts.  Too, both are from nearly the exact same neck of the woods, save that Springer is from that toxic, corrupt armpit known as Joisey (has ANYthing good ever come from there?  Snooki?), whereas Joel is from The City That Never Sleeps, the seat of culture, where there are so many art museums and concert halls that you can’t swing a dead Democrat without hitting one.

Now I, of course, have absolutely no bias at all one way or the other (other than to note that it sounds like Springer hasn’t cleared his throat in 15 years, while Joel has a voice that is clean, clear, and strong).  But again, I think you can tell alot about someone based on which one they pick.  Springer sings about stuff more in tune with your average blue-collar dock worker, whereas Joel touches on alot of the eternal questions of what it means to be a man.  Too, Joel can almost bring a tear to your eye, with his songs about unfulfillable longing that make your heart ache, while Springer mostly makes you want to get drunk, leave your wife, and/or blow your brains out.

Again, I, of course, have absolutely no bias at all one way or the other (Billy Joel nailed Christie Brinkley!), but I thot I would open it up to the hivemind.  So, are you a classy guy who likes Billy Joel?  Or, do you (gasp!) like Springsteen?  Remember, there will be a test later, and those who make the wrong choice will be sent to a gulag in Joisey…

Joel.

I have never liked Teh Boss.

They both sing anti-american, pro-socialist claptrap, so they can both go furk themselves.

I like both but Nebraska is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Gotta go with the boss.

47, so I was around for the start of both of 'em.

And to be severly disappointed with most heavy metal...

WAT x1,000,000,000!!!!!  THAT drunken glass gargler?  And yes, I was around to see him start out, too!

Serially, do you really think he has more talent than the Joelster?  Howd'yafigger?

Being originally from NJ, I've had enough of both to last a few lifetimes.

Of the two though, I'd rather HANG with Billy Joel.  Springsteen is a fucking commie.

Word as for my opinion.

And as far as raw musical talent is concerned they aren't in the same league. Joel has written symphonies, collaborated on musicals, and his resume goes on.

My vote went to the Piano Man

Glass Houses for the win. Some absolutely great songwriting.

I don't dislike Billy Joel, but I've been a huge Springsteen fan since I was 13.

No comparison.  Billy Joel writes pithy little pop tunes and Springsteen is writing poetry.

And, as was already pointed out above, Joel has stretched artistically far beyond the pop success for which he is best known.

Joel has more talent, he has a better voice and he can play the fuck out of a piano. So, my vote is to him.

Or are you going back even further?  Bach?  Strauss?  What?  WHAT THE FLOCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT??????????????  GIVE ME SOME CONTEXT, GODDAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!

Actually....... Billy Joel is from Hicksville, Long Island (somewhat near the Nassau/Suffolk border.)

Bullshit, Springsteen was a great lyricist.  I like both, but Springsteen had the better lyrics.  He might be a commie, but the music was good.

I like a lot of Billy Joel tunes as well.
