I read on here some time back that he refused a role because of the leftist script.

If he can pick and choose his scripts, why did he use the one in John Q about gun shows?

Can you be more specific?  What script did he ditch?

BTW, Mathew Modine turned down the lead role in Top Gun because he thought it was too right-wing.  It became Tom Cruise's definitive role.

Sorry, I can't remember what it was.  Maybe he just insisted that it be changed.

How was Top Gun right-wing?  Because it was sort-of pro military?

Yeah, exactly. That the military were the good guys fighting back the aggressive bad guys who killed Goose.

Personally, I thought Top Gun was far more homoerotic than right-wing.  All those topless volleyball matches, Ice Man with the earring, "You can ride my tail anytime, Maverick" Need I say more?

Well, its been a long time since I watched it.  When it came out I was in high school and didn't really know what queer was.  I guess they were too comfortable in the closet.

I can spot them a mile away now.
