Yesterday I'm on the phone with my old boss arranging some contract work. His Iphone 4 keeps acting like someone is pressing the keypad. The proximity sensor is malfunctioning and his cheek is hitting the keypad on the screen. So he switches hands and.... it drops the call due the grip of death or whatever. he loves apple and has multiple Iphones but yesterday via land line he says any more and he's going android. fyi Iphone 3g user here. |

This is a bigger issue than the antenna issue and it's not getting a whole lot of coverage. The thread of complaints in Apple's support forum is up to106 pages! If I have to make/take an important call, I use the earbuds/mic. Some people have made the problem go away but doing a restore, but that has only worked for few people. It's start dialing, end the call, turn on speaker phone, mute, turn on FaceTime... It is a real PITA. According to some, they moved the sensor, which is causing the problems. I think the 3G/3GS had two sensors as well. The original sensors were on the sides on the speaker, the 4 only has one located about the speaker. |

The antenna problem is not alleged its a real problem, buying a case/wraping it in tape/using a rubber bracelet/ is not a "fix"...
Using a headset is not a fix either for the other issues also the phone reporting the wrong "bars" is apples code not AT&Ts like alot of people are trying to pass it off as, the next update is using AT&Ts model |

Guess what I plan on buying on Thursday regardless of what Consumer Reports says... The phone works great...especially with a case |

This is not apples fault, its a problem with the people who manufacture the phone and their QC, don't blame apple.....at least thats what i have been told by some. Easy on that kool-aid bud. If an item is defective don't blame the company selling it? Who's the company that sells I think a .22 AR that's a piece of shit. Half the people blame the company that makes them, the other (smart) half blame the company that licensed their name to it. I wanna say based on all the Kool-Aid it was Colt that licensed their name out. |

will never happen Steve will send free phone bumpers to everyone as a "gift" any everyone will be happy, all new phones will be shipped with free phone bumpers all will be right in the world. |

I am not a fan boy. I have done tons of research on this phone. |

I have problems with the proximity sensor and holding the phone with my shoulder. It's very annoying but I normally don't hold my phone that way so it's not a huge problem. I haven't experienced any more dropped calls than 'usual' with my iPhone 3G and the stellar AT&T network. /s Apple would be smart to just give everyone that buys a iPhone 4 one of those bumpers to mask the reception problem many are having as that seems to fix the issue. |

Nothing alleged about it. It is a confirmed issue. Drop the Kool Aid. Confirmed issue or not, do you hold your phone like this? http://i32.tinypic.com/14lu0yf.jpg You don't have to hold it just like that. You just have to bridge that gap, which is quite easy to do when being held normally. |

Bridging the two antennas will cause major 20dB signal loss. This is a design error, one that should have never made it to production. How it did frankly confounds me as the general public discovered this issue on day 1. This is separate from accelerometer issues, which is likely a software issue. I understand you do not want to admit a problem on a device you love, but there most definitely is one, and it has been well documented. |

I have only ever stated that I personally have no issue while using my iPhone. If I had a problem with it, I'd certainly admit it. A zealot, I am not. I can't say the same thing for others (on either side) though. |

You are insinuating that the only way to reproduce the issue is to hold the phone like a crab, which is far from the case. Label me a zealot if it makes you feel better on the inside, I have a bank of xservers in my server room that, with the exception of one, all run great. No Apple hate here, but again, if it strengthens your world view, great. |

Not ALL phones seem to be affected, and some are worse than others in regards to the sensor issue. The antenna issue, OTOH, seems to affect most phones. |
