So the offending parts kits are machineguns? [V]

Dare you to call up and ask "How much fer some more of dem machinegun kits?"

Bob Conrad, United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina summed it up by adding, "The illegal importation, possession, and transfer of fully automatic machineguns pose a serious risk to law enforcement and other citizens. We will vigorously prosecute any attempt to smuggle illegal weapons into this country."

The BATFE should have been finished off in 1981.

If the hot link had been correct to start with...

I can't understand why people just don't hotlink the actual link instead of giving it a cute name.

That way we could see the problem right away.

Correct link:

Fucked-up link:

Gee, if they told the TRUTH about it they'd have to admit that the biggest firearm threats to cops come from .38's and 9's.  Tney make it sound like every two-bit thug is running around with full auto blasting every badge he sees.

Of course if they told the TRUTH many, many bullshit fallacies that the ATF and other law enforcement are built on would crumble like a house of cards.

law enforcement and other citizens

That's one of the few times I've heard somebody from the gooberment imply that cops are citizens too. [shock]  They usually go out of their way to make the LEO/civilian distinction implying that FEDS/COPS are somehow "above" mere citizens.

Dunno if you are up on "news" or not, but "that issue" came to a peaceful resolution, and would like to be dropped...

Over 2000 + 1000 + 500 receivers of different types?  Let's see, at 10 years / $250,000 per conviction....  Ouch.

So what parts did they sell that were classified as machinegun parts? Did they sell a receiver stub that wasn't cut to BATFE instructions? Or did they sell the whole receiver? Sounds like these boys could spend some time in the pokie.

that is some bad news for them, when the gov gets a hold of you it could be all over, i also wonder what was illegal about what they were doing as far as the kits, was it that they sent out full auto parts, or waht?

[#20]
Most of the guys that bought those items have already turned them in.  I know a couple of guys the were contacted by the ATF and they only took the offending part or parts and left the rest.  It all went smooth for them.  I have bought a few bolt actions from IO and some ammo.  I'm glad I did not buy a PPSH, I was thinking about it.  It would suck to be out $700.

I know that they were selling cut recievers and sending all the pieces instead of holding back a piece that would necessitate manufacturing a new reciever. Don't know if that was the technicality that got them busted. There's always FAC if you need kits.

I haven't seen the evidence, but I'd bet this is more of that wretched "if our retired Navy machinist/armorer working in our million-dollar machine shop can make this pile of iron into a working gun in less than three days, it's a MG" crap.

Oh, yeah, if they sold a bazillion "illegal machine guns," and machine guns are a threat to public, where're all the bullet-riddled bodies, cop cars, and buildings?
2/6/2004 7:59:53 AM EDT
[#23]
They were selling blade cut receivers, instead of torch cut recievers.  Torch cutting, per the ATF, must remove 1/4 inch of material at each cut to make it difficult or nearly impossible to reweld the parts.  Also, they were doing the cutting in the wrong places, as I understand it.  (E.g., on FALs, cutting so as to leave the F.A. ejector block in place and functional).

Glad I only bought one part kit and some C&R's from Interordnance.

Just hearsay, but from what I've heard, most of the purchase records were obtained in a raid of IO in Nov 2001, rather than being voluntarily handed over by IO.  ATF also performed another raid last spring.

It's been brought up a time or two already. Didn't want a duplicate post.

Also it was 'personal knowledge' and without a supporting 'link' some jackhole would have raised the bullshit flag.

Others would have accused me of trying to make a 'wholesale direct' operation look bad because they directly compete with me.

Then there are those who would have gotten defensive about me speaking poorly of their C&R and cheap Yugo supply would have questioned my motives as well.

So all things considered, I let it lay. There is all kinds of shit I don't mention because I don't have supporting documantation or it would be received poorly.
