| Does anyone else carry an Interceptor vest or similar body armor on patrol? I work in the Phoenix area and thought with all the goings-on it would be a good idea to have it in the front seat. Just in case. I still wear my level III vest all the time, of course. |

Not a cop. But I'm bored so I'll throw in what comes to mind.
In my non-leo opinion, a plate carrier might be a better option. It'd be easier to take on and off than the intercepor, a lot more comfortable especially in Arizona heat. Plus I believe a plate carrier will be cheaper than an interceptor. few years ago when I was talking to a Marine recruiter whil in HS he said interceptor sucks. I'm assuming he meant comfort wise. Another thing I would think about is would the cut of the interceptor interfere with the draw of your pistol. Again not a leo so I could just be talkin outta my ass. |

I wore an Interceptor when I was in Iraq....and yes, while they do protect you, they suck big time for comfort.
Our PD uses full tactical vests that have Level IIIA panels as well as SAPI plates. We normally throw them in the trunk with a ballistic helmet and shield. The town next to us doesn't have the funds to do that, so I think they're just going with the plate carrier solution. It's a lot more cost effective. |
