Back in Feb. I bought a new car. Had to sell my truck because I couldn't afford the payments due to lack of work. While I was car shopping I got quotes from different company's. I stayed with Geico because they were the cheapest. Well I just got my second renewal with them for that car and my premium jumped up $400 a year. My driving record is clean.  I called and asked why and they said its because a new crash test came out and said its not as safe now as when I first got the car.  I shopped around and got different quotes and they little lower then Geico but with higher coverages for the most part. The guy I talked to said I could stretch my payments from 4 months to 6 months and lower the amount each month but hell I called progressive and got a quote for half as much with twice the coverage.

Why would the insurance jump like that? Any good company's to get quotes from? I already tried Allstate, Progressive, State Farm and Elephant. With the exception of Allstate they all have been lower prices and Allstate is unbelievably high.

21st Century is the lowest I could find...or was it Esurance?  I bought the insurance from 21st Century anyway.

Call Ameriprise Auto Insurance.
Had them for YEARS. The best insurance company you have never heard of. They used to be American Express Auto Insurance before they spun off.
You won't be sorry. No one has ever beaten their quote.

I work as an adjuster for a large auto insurance company that is on TV alot with a female spokes person. We are a solid insurer...we pay for anything that makes sense....and most bulltshit unfortunately..... Get a quote from our website...same service as an agent and usually cheaper..

They bring you in with low rates then jack them up and hope you stay with them .

Yup.  Geico tried pulling that with me.  When I called they said something along the lines of a driver that's been licensed for more than 16 years without an accident is a higher risk since they haven't had an accident yet, they're more likely to.

Cancel the collision coverage and raise the deductible as high as you're comfortable.

For what it's worth,

A couple of body shop owners tell me that their favorite companies to work with are State Farm and Erie.

For me good rates are a plus, but handling claims is a bigger plus.

I am seriously thinking of looking into these two.

Damn shame progressive is owned by such a liberal jerk.

With an estimated net worth in excess of a billion dollars, Lewis frequently donates money to charities and political groups. He is a patron of the arts and supports many artistic pursuits. Lewis's personal and corporate contemporary art collection is well known—the corporate collection is displayed at Progressive Insurance offices. Lewis has made donations to:

   * Princeton University (A Gehry designed science library, $60 million; the Lewis-Sigler Institute for Integrative Genomics, $55 million; arts initiative, $101 million. Total $233 million to date.)
   * Case Western Reserve University (The Weatherhead School of Management Peter B. Lewis Building, another Gehry design, $36.9 million, out of $61.7 total building cost)
   * Marijuana Policy Project (Donated $3,000,000 to MPP in 2007.)
   * The Guggenheim Museum ($50 million)
   * America Coming Together and MoveOn.org (with George Soros matching his $10 and $2.5 million, respectively)
   * American Civil Liberties Union
   * The Democratic Party

   * MAPS-sponsored MDMA/PTSD Research in the US, Switzerland and Israel $750,000 [www.maps.org]
   * Menorah Park (Peter B. Lewis Aquatic & Therapy Center)
   * Traction

Well I called around and looks like Im going to have to fork over more dough for insurance. Either way Geico is not getting anymore money from me. My current premium for Geico is $472 for 6 months and the new rate would be $686. The quotes I got so far

Ameriprise- $986
21st Century- $698
State Farm - $671
Nationwide - $640
Esurance- $559
Progressive - $422

I will probably go with State Farm or Progressive. I have always heard good things about State Farm and dont mind paying a little more for good service. Even though their price is about the same as Geico. I think Geico did me wrong for being with them as long as I have been and to have a clean record. The nice thing about the Progressive quote is that the coverages are twice what everyone else is.  I have my motorcycle insurance though Progressive which is probably one reason they are cheaper then everyone else. Anybody have any experience with Progressive and their automotive insurance? I have had their motorcycle coverage for a year and a half and never needed to make a claim.

I tired them first time I was getting quotes back in Feb. and they told me I wasnt qualified.

I switched to Amica about a year ago and am happy with the change.  Amica was the best of all the quotes I got, plus you pay on a 10 month system so you don't pay anything two months a year (assuming you pay on a monthly basis like me).

Always requote every 12 months if not more. I'm a risk analyst's wet dream and there is a $400 6-month spread on my premium for two vehicles between major carriers.

Right now I'm with Country Companies who are for me the cheapest.
