I need help with an insurance matter.

I was rear ended by a person and have a minor dent in my 06’ truck. I obtained his insurance info and was contacted by the adjuster.

He is stating 1.8 hours to remove and replace the bumper and $430.06 for parts. I agree with the parts and want to do my own labor.

Can I do the work and send them the actual labor and parts amount for reimbursement? He is looking at some “insurance data” stating the 1.8 hours. Would any shop be tied to the 1.8 hour figure or could they charge for more if it were actual hours.

Thanks,

As I understand it (and I could be way wrong) is that the other driver did X amount of damage to your truck. They will compinsate you for the amount of damage done.

I've only had my car damaged once (Scoccer mom backed into my car in a parking lot, wasn't even in the car). I went out and got three ests. from local shops . Her insurance cut me a check for the lowest est.

I cashed the check and took the money to the shop and had a fixed car in a couple of days. I never delt with an adjuster or really anyone from my insurance and just one phone call to the scoccer moms insurance.

you get it apraised and they give you an amount to do it... which means the shop prob. estimated High so they dont lose money..

or so I think

You get an estimate the insurance company of the at fault party will write you a check.  Then you can do it yourself if you like.  Doesn't even matter if you get it done.  That is how it is in SD anyway.

At least in NY they are supposed to just cut you a check. Fix it or not, it's up to you.

My car got hit this winter. I got an estimate, mailed it to the insurance company and they mailed me a check, they have no idea if it's fixed or not and don't care.

When you "cash settle", you pretty much do what you want with the check.  We usually send out a adjuster to look at the car and cut you a check on the spot.  Most opt for us to set up servieces for them if they see that their deductible is way below what it would cost to fix.  A lot of shops use standard industry programs like Mitchell Estimator.
