OK, here's the deal.

I have to get my insulation in my basement re-done.

That means the old insulation (R9.6) will be coming down as it is 40 years old and full of dust, nuts, etc. and new insulation going up will be R13 or R15.

The ceiling is wide open and accessible, so no sweat, right? Wrong.

Current insulation is the old foil backed stuff and is foil on both sides. In my search of all the stores around I find that a Kraft backed insulation is NOT available on both sides. It only has one side that is faced which is a vapor barrier and is supposed to go towards the living space. In this case, that would leave the pink insulation open to my basement with no way to staple the stuff up and also making a great receptacle for dust and mice to the unfaced exposed area.

Owens makes this Pink Plus crap which uses a tissue thin piece of paper to cover the insulation so it is less "itchy" to handle. It will NOT stand up to any kind of use nor does it have a lip to staple on.

Anyone have any idea on who makes a 2 face sided insulation?

I could put the regular stuff up and cover with clear plastic, but that would be a HUGE pain and if I needed to get to pipes or wires, I would then have to cut the plastic, so that makes no sense.

Anyone?

Use foam board or the fiberglass boards with the foil backing.  Also, don't use plastic to seal the bottom of the joists - you'll end up with rot.

Foam boards will only give about a R4 value unless I stack them 3 deep.

Very cost prohibative

Johns Mansvile (speling?) has a fully encapsulated plastic wrapped virgin fiberglass insulation we use all of the time. It has a stapling flange just like kraft faced oes
