Wow. That seems like a big deal. The cosmic speed limit has now been proven, not theorized, to be false. This will be the start of some big things. |

Quoted:
Sorry, first you must send an entangled particle at sub-light speed to the location that you wish to send a message to, therefore you have not violated the speed of light. Also, distant galaxies are receding away from us faster than the speed of light due to the expansion of space. Also not faster than light. Quoted:

So, if you collapse the wave function of entangled pairs by observing one of the particles, how exactly does this transmit useful information? It would be different if I could force a spin to be in a specific direction and this causes the remote particle to adopt that spin. I could transmit useful data. This doesn't seem useful at all, what am I missing? |

No it hasn't, because you are assuming a category error. Information is not a physical thing, there was no speed involved. The state change is immediate, no thing traveled anywhere from point A to Point B at any speed across any medium. "lack of medium" |

| When we send info, down a fiber optic line, for example, first, at one end the information is converted to light pulses, then sent, slower than the speed of light in a vacuum because it's not in a vacuum, it's in glass fibers. Then at the other end, it's converted again. Each of those steps, the conversion to, the photons traveling, any intermediate steps like boosting, etc, constitutes an intermediate step, and therefore not immediate. Entangled particles are entangled. When one changes state, so does the other and without any time delay at all, and no medium travels anywhere at any speed. |

I wish I could find the thread or story about the guy claiming to have found evidence of them doing this on one of the Mars rovers. His claim is that hidden data and server time stamps on files showed they were communicating instantly between Mars and Earth. |

It’s a hell of a stretch, but there was enough detail that I wouldn’t be completely surprised that it was true. |

Quoted: They claim to have done this with the entangled pairs over 700 miles apart. Do they know how that is happening? My syllogism is as follows: 1. Assuming it's true. 2. It violates no part of the special theory of relativity logically. The speed of light in a vacuum isn't even relevant at all. 3. There's no logical reason it can't be true. Conclusion: It could be true. Time will tell, but it certainly does not disprove the speed of light in a vacuum for physical things that have mass as an inviolable universal limit. |

I was very careful to qualify information as not a physical thing, since obviously information is a thing. But Meta-physical things don't comply to the same categories as physical things. Physical things have a location in physical space. Physical things cannot be in two places at the same time. The number 7 exists, but where is it? Can you bring it to me, after which it will no longer be at the place from whence you brought it? These are logical category errors. The number 7 is real, but it does not have a location, because it is not a physical thing. It does not have mass, or speed limitations, or an entrophic course. The number 7 has always, will always, and will always forever exist at all times, in all places, simultaneously. Because it's not a physical thing, it is metaphysical. |

As of now with our current understanding of physics, there is no way to transmit information in the normal sense without a classical communication link as well. Manipulating the state of one entangled particle breaks the entanglement, all we can do is observe.
Simply put, this is not an avenue for superluminal transmission. Think of you and someone else watching a TV show on opposite sides of town. You both see the exact same thing is happening at the same time, but you can’t use it to communicate with each other. |
