I want to ask you guys a serious question.

Do you think we should close our borders and prevent any more immigrants from coming to our country?

I am a firm believer in freedom and our country's great diversity, but at what point do we say "enough is enough" and close our borders to prevent our economic system from being bled dry by non-educated disease carrying Somalis and others?

I apologize for the slanted language, but I would really like a serious answer from everyone.

p.s. My great grandmother was a Chickasaw Indian so don't go there. (My "you wouldn't be here if it wasn't for immigration crowd)

You mean exclusive like the 190+ nationalities (and broken down hundreds upon hundreds of component ethnicities) that we already have? There is no other nation that has more. How exclusive is that?

Whether or not now is the time to end immigration forever... I don't know. But our immigration system is grossly abused and completely understaffed. A pause would certainly be in order.

Other points to consider:

People mention the last great wave of immigration in the early part of the century as an example of a large influx of whites (and few non-whites). Since the late 60s the quotas were changed to make up for that by changing the mix to 90% non-white. However, since Javitz and  Teddy Kennedy passed that law (strange... it was his brother JFK who said America was developed enough and din't need any more immigrants) there have now been more immigrants than in the "great wave" they like to reminisce about, with no end in sight. So it would seem that they've more than made up for it. (And I'm talking legal immigration - it is slanted a zillion to one if go to illegals)

The past immigration (mainly by whites) was stopped many, many times. Just cut-off, to allow for greater assimilation, etc. You can't do that now BECAUSE IT WOULD BE RACIST! Interesting logic huh? It's fine to do it to whites a half-dozen times...

I am also concerned that the huge population increases we will see in the future here via immigration will result in severe environmental degradation. All those people will be making more pollution (air, water, landfills, etc), our roads more congested, and not to mention energy crisis worse and even balance of trade.

Where I am we're getting to the point that it's going to be paved over from Metro Detroit all the way up to Flint. And this is not a fast growing area. LA is crazy enough as it is. Where are they going to build all these schools and power plants? I don't even want to think about replicas of Calcutta, Cairo, Mexico city, and other 20 million+ pop megacities. Put on your face mask!

Did anyone catch Hannity & Colmes last night. There was a discussion about [b]illegal[/b] aliens, that [b]illegally[/b] attend high school, and are here [b]illegally[/b] for 3 years should be entitled to college at much lower cost then legal American students, and legal foreign students. I do not have all the information but something like the [b]illegal[/b] aliens would be paying $5k, where as everyone else is paying $11k. This was for CA. I do not have answers about what should be done, but for damn sure the entitlements need to cease immediatly. With all of our legal, and natural born citizens out of work, homeless, hungry etc, we need to clean house first then deal with everyone else later. This thought has been stated countless times over our history but now more then ever it needs to be addressed.

I think it should be stopped for about 30 years,that'll give us time to think about what has happened and if we want to let any more in,and clear up the office of immigration,More people, stiffer laws, laws enforced to the letter, I do think that the border with Mexico should be permanently closed, as our friends to the south have no intention of stopping the flow, and the north bank of the Rio Grande should be heavily mined, and manned with armed troops with shoot on sight orders,I feel if we don't do something like this soon, all of South America will be living here, sucking off welfare,and we'll be paying for it all...

We shouldn't close the border.....We should be careful of who we are letting in.

Eventually there will be so many unskilled workers here, we will be forced into socialism to keep disease and crime down. Sort of like England now is experiencing.

As I understand it, the bill in question would reclassify illegal immigrants as 'in-state residents', for the purpose of public university tuition payments, pending certain criteria. They have to have 'resided' in the state for at least three years, and have a diploma from a high school within that state. Actually IIRC California, if it passes, would be the 8th state to have such a policy.

Ironic, now, that those disadvantaged who are not of this country seem to be getting more and more breaks than the disadvantaged of this country.

I believe it is simple. Anyone who is not a citizen of this nation, or is not actively seeking citizenship, has three choices.
1. IMMEDIATELY begin seeking citizenship.
2. Provide funds for your IMMEDIATE departure from this country to somewhere else.
3. If refusal of one or two, you will be given a raft, a jug of water, a box of nutrient bars, and dropped in the middle of the ocean.

I do not propose to close the borders, but they need to be massively reorg'd. Anyone who is seeking citizenship, and has done the necessary work can enter this country. Anyone who attempts to enter this country illegally, and without seeking citizenship, are to be considered as committing treason against this nation and will be handled accordingly (hanging, was it?)
