| I've got a 3 year old Whirlpool side by side and the icemaker has stopped working. The water dispenser on the door still works fine so I suspect the water supply to the icemaker is good. Anyone know how to go about figuring out what's wrong with it short of paying a repairman to come out? |

This has been covered before. The line that feeds the ice maker freezes. The fix is to disconnect the line and use a turkey baster or something and squirt hot water into the line. Of course, at some point it will freeze again.
You may be able to find the original solution by DrFridge in the archives. |
| I have changed 2 in seven years!! Make sure the device that kicks the ice out of the mold is not jammed into anything. Thats what happened to the last one, the one before just started leaking everywhere. Parts are about 115 bucks from a parts supplier or north of 200 from Sears. It takes 10 min to R&R the thing. SS |

I just spent an hour looking for the thread in the archives because the search function wasn't finding it. If anyone has it saved, a link would be greatly appreciated. I have a headache now from staring at the archives pages.... |

Well when mine screwed up it was the Filter, and it is a big filter, maybe yours don't have a filter, I don't know?
What I did to make sure my filter was the problem was blow through it, this unclogged it so I went and got a new one and it has been great ever since |

Was your water still working on the door? I'll admit to needing a new filter but I'd think that if the filter was clogged I wouldn't get ice or water. My water is working fine. Appreciate the help It has been 2 years but I "THINK" I still had water on the door and no water to my icemaker. Pull it out, blow through it and stick it back in, then see if it works ? |

Does the unit have a flap inside the freezer and a red light? If so shut the flap, if the light flashes twice with a pause and repeats the IR sensor is out.
Also remove the cover of the ice maker and check the gear, if it comes off the shaft, you need a new motor module. Finally check for a iced up water spout. |

Mine "locked" up shortly after the power outage.
I surmised the timer was caught in between cycles when the thaw and subsequent refreeze occurred. I simply poured several coffee mugs of hot water across the tray and the stuck pieces popped out. All is well afterward. |

check out this
http://www.popularmechanics.com/home_improvement/home_improvement/1276061.html and this http://www.applianceaid.com/icemaker.html good luck mine is doing the same but I just found the 10 year warranty that the wife bought so I'm done messing with it. For me it wasnt the black fill thinggy this time. The door water works but no ice. I removed the Ice maker and probed the fill tube finding no blockage. My next step would be to check the fill valve but I will let the tech do that now. |

My whrilpool "Gold" still makes ice but it only makes about three batchs a day, so its not able to keep up with the familys needs. oh yea this just started last week. Icemakers put a serious load on the freezer. Most commonly, the coils are dirty, preventing efficient heat rejection. Roll the fridge back, unplug and remove the back cover. Vacuum out the block of dust that is the coils, get all of it. |

I haven't had a chance to mess with it anymore yet. My son is in town for the holidays and I've been trying to spend as much time with him as I can before he goes back home.
I appreciate all of the help, we'll be using bagged ice for another couple of weeks until I have more time to mess with it. |

I pulled off the back and the coil was pretty clean, then I saw the fan blades were caked with dust bunnys and turning very slow, quick vac job and the ice was full the next morning. Thanks Keith. |
