Had a few Rums... A nice cabin I built with my own two hands, with help from friends. No utility bills. a view like last night of Killer Northern Lights now and then. Considerable debt. A mostly reliable vehicle. Very good neighbors to each side of me, and good neighbors in my area. Had a great time in life for the most part, some very sad, but most very happy. A drive to DO THINGS. Some small, some grand, but I love working towards something. A roof to help my neighbor finish on his cabin tomorrow, but it will be wet til 1 so I can sleep in if I choose. A Military retirement, which is not much, but some. A loving family. Bears in my yard. Knowledge that I have been to every continent except Antarctica. A challenge coin not many have seen. 37 Degrees outside. Comfy winter long johns and Boots. A handful of Semi-Famous Peoples phone numbers. Some I can call friends. Some of my best friends in the ground. A hunger for a bacon sandwich. Plans for a house, garage, and help to construct it when I can afford to. A freezer full of moose meat, and Halibut. Both my parents and all my brothers and sisters.

An amazing family in an amazing house that I own full of amazing things. One negative for me is that I probably will have a huge fight with an AC company tomorrow, I'll put their name out there Parker and Sons they are the largest HVAC company in AZ as far as I know. They installed a brand new AC on my house a little less then 2 years ago and since then it's been a total nightmare. It just broke down for the second time since in the last two years which averages out to my AC breaking down once a year it also caused major electrical problems to my house when it was first installed... Which is insane for how much money I paid for it. So to sum it up I also have a broken AC lol. |

Memories good and bad.
Few regrets, and about those I'm sure I'm mistaken. A bathroom to finish before winter, but at least the pipe didn't let go when I wasn't home. 15 yr old cat which seems to be going south. Half a pot of coffee left at 0300, and the day off. Fewer friends and family- we'll soon be in "last man standing" territory. And maybe just a bit of a hankering to see Alaska while I still can.........

My coffee pot gave up the ghost yesterday morning. I miss my old cat, but he lived a great and relaxed life. I do love Frank Sinatra.... Aviator |

Excellent post!
I was pretty happy. I have a wonderful family. A wife that has loved me for 22 years. A house in a beautiful area and we just built a big deck off the back. But now I have to deal with this: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_1_5/1669180_A_question_for_the_arfcom_docs_.html |

What do you have tonight? A husband lying by my side breathing softy, a cat lying by shoulder purring, a dog lying by my feet snoring, a friend who would die for me, three more who would lie for me, and the hard won knowledge that contentment comes, not from having more, but from needing less. |

Shortsighted my friend. You have more than that.... Aviator Quoted:

Either Ebola or enterovirus. Haven't figured out which yet, but I feel like crap. Bound to be one of the two, though. Maybe both. Shortsighted my friend. You have more than that.... Aviator You are correct. I have my dream property of 10 rural acres, a wife I couldn't have designed better from scratch, four healthy, responsible children, a well-paying job that lets me work more than half time from home, and a fresh pot of coffee on the counter. The Enterobola is only a minor bump in the road.
Oh yeah, the frosting on the cake: that 10 rural acres, a couple of miles down a dirt road and 40 miles from the nearest Walmart, has gigabit fiber internet access. You're right... the blessings are many, the hardships are few. |

A job that makes me tear my hair out sometimes, but pays my bills. My mom, and some of my extended family. A friend who would help me hide a body, and whom I trust implicitly. Some nice guns. A nicotine buzz. A car that I love. A good dog. More whiskey than I know what to do with. A manageable amount of debt that still causes me to stress out. A sizable library. Three more hours of work. A plan.
And an itch to go back to Alaska

Aviator A awesome and loving wife, a son who is one of my very best friends and is away at college doing all the right things, a great daughter, a good job with only 3 years before retirement, life long friends who I need to spend more time with, a beautiful piece of retirement land on Lake Superior, a house bigger than I want and nicer than I need, many wonderful young men and ladies who I am a role model for through coaching/mentoring them in high school, health family and friends, a life so easy that I don't play the lottery because I can't imagine being any luckier and the joy in belonging to a forum where guys like Aviator tosses out gems like this one. Thanks man!

A good woman that just left for work.
A house I made my own with my own 2 hands. 2 dogs that love me, and are awesome at guarding Clothes, a few cars, all of which run, one of which is a pain in my ass that I still somehow love (land rover...) Good family And a war-belt that is now 4-5" too big for me because I lost weight. |

Beautiful post. You obviously have learned to concentrate on the best things in life. I have that too but keep seeing the bad. I'm working on it. Let me try again. I have, a wife who I love more than when we were "in love." I have three wonderful adult children who are doing something worthwhile with their lives and would never touch drugs. I have a beautiful house in the country with no neighbors. I have a day of BBQ to look forward to today with my son, his girlfriend, and his best friend and 3 year old baby who calls me grandpa. I may not be rich but I am very happy and loved. |
