I was in 5th grade when the 94 ban was debated and signed into law. I can remember my teacher telling my whole class that the ban was a good idea. It was a whole antigun presentation, with political cartoons and a big lecture. I remember telling my mom about it, and she said "If you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have them." I didnt grow up with guns, but my parents are pro self defense etc. I didnt really care about it at the time. Later the my scout leaders taught me how to shoot, and I decided that guns were cool. In retrospect I think that the actions of my 5th grade techer were inappropriate. What would you do if a teacher was spending large ammounts of class time teaching your children antigun propaganda? |
| If it was my kids teacher, I would go in for a parent teacher conference and nicely tell her to keep her political views out of the class room. Then I would launch a formal complaint against her with the school. If that did not get the message across, I would move my child to another teacher (provided another school was not an option). |
