I’m getting the itch for an MP5 or clone. Help. (Page 2 of 3)

My Scorpion Evo S1 was my favorite gun to shoot, but it didn't do as well suppressed as I had hoped (bad port pop). I decided to buy an AP5 Navy, installed the Magpul collapsible stock, moved the suppressor over and now have a new favorite. The Scorpion will be on the table next month at the local swap meet... I like the look of the full size more do than the K and in my reading the full size seems to have less reliability concerns. So that's my vote for you. |

Pdetty much this ^^^ I went with the full size SP5 ne regurts and other then the swap out to the leelower and SS didn't need to change anything to make it run. The extra money you spend no the HK is more money saved in headaches alone. |

I just bought the HK SP5, HK collapsable stock, and RB FRT. Bought some HK oem mags too. It’s sbr’d. It is a range toy, but it may be the most fun range toy I’ve ever had. I’m up to 600ish rounds through it mostly suppressed. It’s a dream to shoot. It all cost a lot, and I have zero regerts.
|
|
I have an HK SP5 k and an MKE AP5P, if you want to run a RB I suggest the MKE due to the front pin keeping the trigger housing tighter, with the factory trigger pack in the HK the housing is tight, with the RB and no front pin the housing is quite loose where the MKE housing is nice and tight. The MKE runs 165s more reliably too vs the HK but the SP5k is still new and I spent $3k to find this out. |
|
Mine is a MAC K clone, but I still love it! I was fine going with a clone since it's always going to be a range toy to me. Pretty much 100% reliable as long as i stick with round nose or jhps. Doesn't like flat nose 147's as much. Still does pretty well with flat nose, but I get the odd jam every 4 or 5 mags (works fine with the 2 or 3 mags of 147gr hst's I put through it though). Once I finish the couple of cases I have left of the flat nose I'll be sticking with regular fmj's. Only downside to it is all the money I've spent feeding it since I got my frt. It is EVERYONE'S favorite gun at the range though. Attached File |

I had an early Zenith (MKE) full size. It would get a FTE about every 3rd mag. Frustrating since it was the most expensive gun I ever bought ($2186). I ended up selling it off. I had replaced the extractor and still had issues, but I never sent it off to Zenith TBF. I recently bought an AP5-P (MKE) and it has never malfunctioned. I like both, and I like the compactness of the K model, but I found the full size to be far more accurate. I will still probably buy another full size so that I can have both. I'm waiting on AS Designs to release the ARHK FRT before I go FRT with mine, I'm not giving RB money. |
I ain’t in no ways tired of winning yet!

I have an AP5 P that I SBR’d, threw an ASD ARc Fire lower on, swapped out the ejector, went to an 80 degree locking piece, and swapped the rollers to correct the headspace before I ever fired a shot through it. Over 5k rounds of over 90% suppressed fire with not one failure. I use the MKE mags and HK mags. The trip isn’t even showing too much wear. I keep it reasonably clean and heavily greased. |

I’m ok with changing the locking piece and extractor. I’ll be keeping the gun in an FRT-friendly state so suitability to accept an FRT is a consideration. That said, encourage me and offer some insight, MP5 experts. Get the full size. Don't know why you'd need to ever change the locking piece. Right now HK has suspended production, so get the MKE. |

I don’t like making plans for the day. Because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around in the courtroom.

My MKE AP5P, with FRT, runs 100% with 147 grain hollow points. I did install an HK ejector, extractor and spring. I use the steel MKE mags. I had bad luck with all the polymer ones. |

The way id do it for a sd can these days is to use your existing pistol can with an adapter. There is one out there currently for a few different cans I got a wolfman on my true SD currently. My TPM SD can is a tiny touch quieter when compared to the full size wolfman and adapter The wolfman in short with the adapter sounds great and takes the oal down a touch |

I bought the AP5-SD with the intent of sending it off for a ported barrel. Then I shot it with my PTR Vent 2 and 147gr ammo. I want to shoot it back to back with a real SD to confirm, but the action noise is louder than the shot. Its quiet as hell, and I dont have to do all the extra cleaning a ported SD requires. The new suppressor tech is damn good. Given that I am not forced to use govt supplied 124gr, I think using a good new suppressor like a Vent 2 or a Cat Mob with 147s completely takes away the need for an old school SD design. |

Or you can convince yourself they're not worth it, and spend a lot of time in forums discussing which parts you should switch out to get your clone to run reliably. I'm sure folks here will say theirs was great out of the box, but those threads are everywhere, and I don't recall ever seeing one started for an SP5. But I acknowledge that decision is tougher now that their prices have increased in the last year. That sucks. |

Originally Posted By Saint_Peter: My MKE AP5P, with FRT, runs 100% with 147 grain hollow points. I did install an HK ejector, extractor and spring. Were you having cycling problems prior to doing that? Or you just felt like swapping them? I use the steel MKE mags. I had bad luck with all the polymer ones. 9mm MP5 mags are really too thin at the feed lips to be made of polymer. That's why Magpul won't make any (with the exception of their D50, which is single-feed, so that works fine). |

| Do it. I have two, a AP5 and AP5P. I put 500 rds of 124 NATO spec ammo through both of them before making any changes or being suppressed, both did great. Both have YHM R9 suppressors, only thing I did was put a 90* locking piece in the ap5p and 100* in the fullsize, both run 100%. If I want to use flat nose ammo MKE mags will give some slight hiccups, but 100% with HK mags. It is a dated platform like you said, but its a lot of fun, and tbh still capable especially suppressed. |
