I Cooked A $200 Steak (Page 1 of 2)

For reference https://www.ar15.com/forums/General/I-Bought-A-200-Steak/5-2858639/ Took it out of the fridge a couple hours before I wanted to start cooking it. Hit it with some sprayable beef tallow as a binder then seasoned heavily with Diamond Crystal kosher salt. Lit 40 briquettes for the Slow N Sear and ran it at about 275° the entire cook, then lit an entire chimney to sear it. Flipped it at 80° internal and pulled it to rest at 115° internal. Seared it, sliced it, and finished it with some flaky salt. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Honestly, I was pretty let down. It didn't taste any different than a non dry aged steak. It was still tasty, but definitely not worth what I paid. I'll be sticking to tomahawk ribeyes for my novelty steaks

Well, I understand the devil is in the details and some folks get all caught up in the preparation and to them every little thing counts towards it being just the way they expect it. If that is what you want , good for you , go for it. I am more of a simple guy . Couple of days back I went to the local supermarket and spent $18 for a strip steak , trimmed it up a bit and tossed it upon my low end gas grill and ran inside to do up a tossed salad , ran outside and flipped it , went inside and finicked the salid. I had somewhat lost track of the time so I cut thru the middle of the steak to check it. I personally like a bit of pink but this looked more red so I left it on for a couple more minutes before I scooped it off the grill. Steak the way I wanted it , salad , seltzer and I sat at the kitchen table with my favorite steak Sause and salad dressing while reading a book I am half way through. Yeah I get it, Not what you guys would want , but it suits me well and that's what I aim for |

And long as no salad was involved |

A good briquette is so much easier to control. |

Your photography perspective sucks in showing the girth of that turd. I don't understand the concept of having mommy cut your steak up for pictures, nor the concept of "resting" a steak. Hot off the fire, eat. Looks good. |
