Any of you growing up have a parent, or someone you knew who was a parent who was very strict and you come to find out they were the worst kid during his or her youth? It almost never fails that the strictest holier then thou parents fall into this category.

I am in my mid twenties right now. Some fat idiot family friend decided to lecture me about being a good person and tried to scold me on something very minor in front of people. Rather then punch him in the face I reminded him that he had two DWIs by the time he was my age, and the fact he flunked out of college two times. He was also reminded of his excessive coke usage during his teenage and twenties. I don't think he will be doing that again.

I am that parent. When your older you'll realize that we have seen and done many things and don't want to see you make the same mistakes. Wanting to punch someone for lecturing shows you may still have some growing up to do.

After listening to this jerkoff you would think he is God. He is not humble in the least. He deserved a smack down. Half of my family applauded in private to me.

Yeah you want me to send you some pics? My BF is out of the picture right now, he is probably going to do some serious time. My dad took away my new laptop, so I only have a few good ones my desktop.

I think you took a wrong turn somewhere on the internet. I don't know how you ended up on arfcom GD but its going to end like that dream where you are naked in front of the whole class, except your not sleeping. Back away slowly.

To be perfectly honest looking back on my life I would say that I had no fun because I did none of the above. I would probably not encourage my kids to do the above but would not look down upon them if they were responsible when they did it.

Holy shit, you sure you are not 13?  Your parents, even if they were wild, are trying to have you grow up better than they did and not make their mistakes.  You sound like a typical self-centered holier than thou kid.  I hope you moved out at 13 because you already knew everything too.

The other family ass hat however should STFU, not his place to correct you when he is frakked up anyway.  That is the job of your hypocrite parents.

This once more.  Failing to live up to a standard doesn't negate the standard itself.  The left has problems with understanding this.  That's not to say I wasn't kicked off a dinner table or two for verbally chokeslamming my elders (even fairly recently) but just try to keep the big picture in focus.

BTW you're fucking awesome Bristol.  Don't let them haters get you down.

And no, anybody who's anybody on arfcom doesn't start out with no posts.  They go to a shaman who hooks them up with a gold membership and 5000 posts, or buy somebody else's account on eBay.  There is no zero.  I am permanently damned to wander with the Dalits and proletariat (trolls, banned members) for learning this too late.

This.

As a parent, I certainly don't want my kids to make all of the mistakes that I made.

I'd like my kids to have an easier, better life by learning from the mistakes of others, including myself.

Maybe rather than insulting the guy you should appreciate that he gives a shit about you.

So by your logic, any parent that has done anything wrong in their past has no right to try to prevent their child from performing the stupid act or some other stupid act that could screw up their life or cause unneeded  pain and hardship.   If we take this logic a step further, parents should raise their children in a manner allowing them to screw up their lives more or worse than they did.   Wow.    If you abide with this philosophy, please grow up or do not breed.    You sound remarkably like many of the self-entitled seventh graders I have the joy of dealing with.

Who has that motivational poster about "your life is to serve as a warning to others"?

Exactly. If they do something wrong, I want them to get in as much trouble as I would have if I had gotten caught doing it.

It's this fucked up sense of guilt that leads to overpermissive parenting.

"Well, I can't say I never drank a beer when I was growing up, so I think we should buy a keg of beer for little Billy and his friends for his 16th birthday."

"Well, I can't say I never had sex in high school, so I think we should make sure little Billy has a pocket full of condoms every day when he leaves the house."

"Well, I can't say I never stayed out late, so I don't think we should give little Billy a curfew."

"Well, I can't say I never went into a test unprepared, so I don't think we should make little Billy stay home and study."

I remember a woman who reacted very indignant because I let a cuss word slip.  It was a very disproportionate way to act.  Later I found out that she was a child abuser.  Not somebody who gives a swat to the behind for bad behavior, but a real abuser.

You need to read before you jump to conclusions.

The op is in her mid twenties, the idiot attacked her in public, the idiot was more interested in putting her down than relaying wisdom, she gave it back.  Holding your ground against idiots is important.

I'd be curious as well. What some may consider minor, isn't to others. Something like "Oh man, I was so fucked up last night, I drank a bunch of beer, then smoked weed, and then they brought out shots. I am so hungover. I think I even had sex in a bathroom stall," might seem minor to Lindsay Lohan since there was no police or ambulances involved, but certainly merits a "Get Your Shit Together."

I know a lady who was a teenager when my wife and I first moved into our current house many years ago.  She dated the boy who lived next to us.

She was a little on the hard to control side, shall we say.

Now, years later, she's grown, has a good husband, a responsible job herself.  And she's somewhat more strict with her kids than I would be.  I would let some things pass as just kids having fun, being kids.

But I would not call her a hypocrite.  I thindk rather, that she has matured, grown into a nice lady and keeps her kids in line.

And she has always been respectiful to me and my wife.  In fact, some years back I had to stop her, "You don't have to call me Mr. ____, just (my first name).  I know you are still being respectful from when you were a kid, but you're grown up now and we're all adults here.  Please call me just (my first name) and my wife (her first name)."  And so it is.

The retard lectured me about my profile on a social networking site. Apparently the dude doesn't know popular culture and gets bent out of shape when I post funny lines from movies.

The dude decided to tell my relatives how my facebook profile was "HIGHLY inappropriate." My relatives came to me asking me about it, he was too spineless to actually say that he had a problem with it to my face. When I called him out on it he proceeded to lecture me about how my profile could prevent me from landing jobs in the future. This coming from a guy who has descent criminal record and his high school aged kids have pictures on their facebook of them doing shots, and smoking pot.
