Just curious about the current GD environment, how many on here are fairly active hunters and been hunting for a while? |

Been hunting since I was 14 or 15 years old. I was already starting to accumulate guns, and it was an activity that allowed me to goof off with guns more. Turns out, I like whitetail and axis venison a lot, and wild pork is awesome as well. But yeah. Hunting is a “reason” for me to screw around with guns even more. |

Deer, turkey, predator/varmints, I'm all about it, in that order. Attached File |
| I generally deer hunt 9 out of every 10 days, nov 14-Jan 15. Gun, muzzle loader, crossbow. With squirrels, coyotes, etc mixed in here and there. Used to hunt sept / October too, but hate bugs, and usually busy those months anyway. |

| I’ve hunted before. Not serious or active. I’ve got 600+ quadrillion gallons of water like 100 yards south of my house. Very little reason for me to drive north for an hour or more if I want to harvest my own meat. |

As to the OP, I’d hunt every day of the season if I could. Unfortunately due to family/work I hunt about 5-10% as much as I’d like to. My retirement plans pretty much revolve around hunting opportunity. |

I shot these grouse 5 miles from the closest trailhead at 10.5k elevation, had lake side grouse and cutthroat trout for dinner. Attached File |

| I used to deer and small game hunt quite a bit. Then I moved to SE MI from NW MI. It got to be too difficult to hunt. In the last 10 years I've been out pheasant hunting two times. I'll probably take it up again when I retire and move north. |

I used to be a serious hunter, now I'm lucky if I can draw a tag every 3 years. I love Nevada but I might have to find a different state to hunt in. |

Does 22 deer in the last 2 years count ![]() And no I’m not out just killing for the hell if it. Got a big family that EATS and most of our meat consumption is venison cause it’s (mostly) free, super healthy, all organic, and delicious |

| From the age of 15 to the age of 45 I was an active hunter; squirrel and deer, on family property. After my open heart surgery at 45 coupled with moving to another state and not having a place to hunt unless I wanted to buy Michigan out-of-state licenses, I stopped. I miss it but I'm not paying the state's ransom to hunt on family owned property. |

I did quite a lot of fishing and hunting as a teenager. I still like getting out in the woods, but I haven't really wanted to spend the money towards really getting involved in hunting for quite a while. I guess the older I get, I like seeing the animals just as they are in the wild, but also I know the population of some need to be managed. I'll still take an occasional groundhog if its causing problems, but other than that I pretty much leave them be. |

I got divorced, so i was a single dad of 2 young kids, own and operate a business and just have too many things going on to make time to hunt. Then I met my gf, who has 2 kids. Then I got into SxS riding and tractors and a home w/ more land. There simply isnt much time for me to do anything and if I do have free time, we want to spend it together riding or working at our home. I also only wanted to shoot "big" bucks and ive killed some decent ones (for NY) and just shooting stuff kinda isnt my gig. My kid wants to go from time to time and ill take him but again, i simply dont care. Because im self employed, id much rather make money, its my hobby and my life
