| Anyone use Hughes Net internet in a remote area? Looking for options. Thanks. |
|
I had poor results with it in the mountains. Slow, slow, slow. Certain times when the sats weren't at the right point I couldn't get any usable signal. It wasn't very cost efficient either.
We ended up getting an exterior cell/3G antenna with an amplifier and had much better results. We used a directional antenna as the tower was down valley. But we had a weak and intermittent signal to work with. If there's absolutely no signal you're SOL. Cheers! -JC |
| Had it years ago, free one month trial. It was gone before the month was up. Download limits, exceed it and you are at dial up speed for a couple days. Free downloads at 2 am. Trouble is that everyone else is doing it so it is almost as slow as dialup. Hated it with a passion, now have 4g off the cell towers, much cheaper and faster. |

It is terrible. It is slow, expensive, has long lag times, and the data is capped. They will charge obscene amounts to increase your data cap. It's probably just a bit better than dialup, but only if the weather is good.
You would be better off using mobile data if it is available. It will be cheaper and give you better service. See if there are any Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISP) in your area. They usually provide decent service and speeds for a reasonable amount. The link below will let you search for WISPs in your area. http://www.wispa.org/Directories/Find-a-WISP |

Anyone use Hughes Net internet in a remote area? Looking for options. Thanks. It "works." I don't recommend it unless there are no other options. Data caps are tiny and reached quickly, and the throttled speed sucks ass. It's better than nothing...but not by much. Don't expect to do any online gaming either. |

We had Direct wave, It was 300k vs dial up. now it's better but where we were those were the choices and ANYTHING is better than dial up. |

We have the 50 gig and it's fast enough for browsing and Netflix Ran out of data with 10 gig Switch Netflix to lower setting and it's good to go Wisp will be in my area soon though |

Anyone use Hughes Net internet in a remote area? Looking for options. Thanks. I had them on a job site for a bit. We got the fastest service with thr large dish and it was just OK. We had no other options, so n it was better than nothing. Be sure you understand your usage limits and schedule your windows updates at night during the free hours. Once you exceed your linits, they really cut your speed. |

I have hugesnet, its way faster than DSL ever thought of being. What I hate the most about HN is the fair data use thingy its like 126mb per day and they give you full speed for the anytime data which I use up in about 10 days because 10gigs isnt much, its like 4g LTE speed where I live. Once its gone I get 3g speed which is bad for everything, want to watch 5FDP The pride on youtube? Expect to load the page and hit pause and come back in 5 mins when it has loaded, the other 50 gigs I hardly use 12% during the month. Exede i think it was. |

We have Wildblue/Exede satellite it is much better than dial up, but it sucks, cell phone coverage is not very good and we have Verizon to cover when out on the road. The local cell tower is somebody else, I think US Cellular.
Country living is good with a few minor sacrifices that need to be made, not a bad thing overall. But damn satellite is expensiv. |
