How long will it be until someone, somewhere on this planet gets nuked?

When/where do you think it will happen & under what circumstances?

Do you think the USA will get boxed into a corner and resort to using nukes?  Israel?  India or Pak?  China?

Enquiring minds want to know...

The last time every country that had nukes used them in WWII.

In WWIII every country that has them will also again be using them.

In that last war, we had two bombs and we used them all.

I rather think the next war will use them all as well.

That will kill every fish in the ocean and every bird in the sky and every animal on the land.

What will be left?

Not anything to write home about.

The consensus was 2 years, when I asked this question 3 years ago.

Around October 25th, 2009 Israel nukes Iran. Iran, SURPRISE!, nukes Israel same day. HalfPastHuman.com

Nukes are a hoax. The government says we have them, and you're just going to take them at face value. You'd just believe anything the government says?

Us.  Some shit-bag terrorist will use a low-yield, cobbled-together suitcase bomb, probably in New York or Washington.  It'll still kill/fuck up a bunch of people and land.  They'll probably do it during the Messiah's one term (so pretty soon).

Country will go ape-shit, the economy will really tank, but we won't do shit.  You can't bomb the Country of Terroristastan, and they know it.  By the time we figure out who did it, it's too late.  That's where Bush failed.  He fucked around too long after 9-11.  He could have melted any country he wanted the day or two after the attack and nobody would have said shit.  Right or wrong, it would have sent a message......don't fuck with us.

Either a Iran-Israel thing or a small nuclear device in a terror attack.

I really doubt it will happen in 10 years. Nuclear weapons will be used eventually but It is not a predictable thing. I would guess that it would be in hasty reaction to some other event.

Some stateless terrorist group will eventually acquire a nuke from somebody.  They will set it off in a western population center with limited damage/effectiveness.  The propaganda value (to them) will be priceless, as it will indeed "terrorize" the western world that al-q or whomever now possesses a weapon.

Western leadership will say a lot, maybe even apologize, but *will never* retaliate in kind.  Simply won't happen, for two reasons; 1. Who do you retaliate against without causing collateral damage?  and 2. No liberal democratic "leader" wants to be known in history as the second president to torch off a nuke against an enemy.  In the end, the problem won't really get solved.  There will be new restrictions on Liberty in the name of "fighting terrorism" but I guarandamtee you six to nine months later most of the unaffected areas of the US will forget it ever happened, just like 9/11 for America.  People will go back to watching American Idol.

That's the biggest thing that drives me nuts about these types of threads - every Chairborne Commando on ARFCOM thinks that the the US Military will unleash holy hell upon anyone who commits such an act upon the US.  But you all MUST KNOW that the commander in cheif that was elected last November has no such desire to make a tough decision such as that or commit any more military resources beyond what might be needed to send a cruise missile into a few "terrorist training camps".

Iran will get ONE< and promptly use it on Israel.  Israel will then demonstrate that they own FAR more than one, and turn Iran into the world's first self-lit, glass parking lot.

As they say, Merriment will then ensue, when the US pussies out, under orders from Obama, and Russia turns Israel into a smoking hole.

Oh, and somewhere along in there, North Korea will fire a missile at Hawaii.

Obama will promptly apologize to NK, when the missile misses it's target.  Trillions will be spent to move Hawaii closer...

I say within 5 years, there's a pretty good chance of one going off in the middle east, or a dirty bomb going off in an American city.  Unfortunately, our current foreign policy is doing nothing to stop either one from happening, and it's likely accelerating the process.

The problem, as I see it, is that "that genie is out of the bottle."

The know-how and materials necessary to build nuclear weapons is spreading - and the collapse of the bi-polar world (US versus USSR) at the end of the Cold War had a lot to do with that.

I wouldn't even try to predict a time frame for you, but I have a bad feeling it IS more a question of "WHEN" and not "IF."

That is a very scary thing to contemplate, too.

I said here on Arfcom Jan. '08 that if a democrap is elected into the WH in '09, then a nuke will be used on US soil by the end of 2010.

Now, I don't think it's going to take that long.

Sadly enough and I hope I am so wrong about this, but the the next Nuke to be detonated in anger will be on our soil.

My answer:  hard to say.

Several different possible vectors.....

Greatest fear right now, for me, is the Taliban getting ahold of one or more of the Pak nukes.  I think the relationship between India and Pakistan is stable enough that I don't think they're going to trade shots, so that's out.

Iran getting a nuke is also a possibility, but I think Isreal will take care of that problem, before it becomes a problem.

(Tangent.  About two years ago, the chief of staff of the Israeli Air Force was being interviewed by an Israeli TV reporter, and was asked, "How far will Israel go to prevent a nuclear Iran?"  His answer:  "About three thousand kilometers."  And his face wasn't , it was .)

China doesn't really worry me, because they're regionally motivated––they want us out of their backyard, but aren't really interested in world domination.  From that perspective, unless we do something stupid to provoke them, I'm not too worried about China suddenly lashing out at us with canned sunshine.

Russia?  I'm worried about their motivation.  They went from the feared Russian Bear to a third-world economy and the conventional military equivalent of Guatemala, and they're a very proud people.  The only thing that keeps them in the superpower club is their nuclear capability, and as their conventional capability atrophies even more over time, they may be tempted to back up their bluster with the only systems they have that are worth a damn––their nuclear delivery systems.  Once again, we'll have to push them pretty hard in Europe to do that, but with the current administration's absolutely stellar reputation for international relations, well.....

Our use?  We have always maintained the option of preemption, and there's plenty of threats out there that our nuclear systems deter every day, but once again, we'll see where that goes with the current adminstration takes us.

So, in short, I'm more worried about terrorist acquisition & use than nation-state exchanges.

Pakistan will crumble or sell off nukes to militants in that region.

They will use it on the US either here or overseas, and we will respond accordingly by wiping out a by then crumbled pakistan / southern afghanistan.

The world will cry and bitch and moan, and the US will still collapse.
