Seriously- if the semi trucks stopped delivering to WalMart and your local stores, how long can you and yours last?
Food? Water? Heat? ability to cook? generate power to run a sump pump or engineered septic? Gas to get you someplace 'better'? I'm an apartment dweller with a Bug Out Location 200 miles away. I keep a few years worth of food on hand, but likely will have to support family with that, so maybe only a few months. Water is hard to store, but I have filters and plenty of water locally to pump clean and bring home. Heatwise, just a Kerosene heater. I think i'm in pretty good shape overall, but soon most of it won't be readily accessible as it's going to my property. |

I have been living off the grid since 1800 on Friday. As a test of my preps. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=10&f=17&t=621457 |

I live in a college dorm room, so with all my canned food, probably 2 weeks. When I'm there I have no car. So, I'm screwed, but not as screwed as everyone else who keeps no food on hand. ![]() Now at my parents house, there's a year's supply of food, to be supplemented with game, along with a lot of water. In AZ, we don't have to worry about heating. Air conditioning might be an issue though. My parents also have a solar oven, so we can cook on any sunny day, any time of year. It works best in the summer though. |

I voted for "Forever", but that depends entirely on reaching the bugout location.
Everything that I (And a select few) will need for a very long time is there. Fresh water Wild fruits and nuts Lots of game and fishing Wood stove Xtra guns and ammo Medical suplies If SHTF I'm not staying around here, my town is overrun with Mexicans, white trash welfare, hood rats and Somalis. It will be a war zone in a week. If it all goes to hell, the kids and I are in the Jeep and making a 45-mile run for it. |

Water screws me every time on polls like this. SoCal is basically a desert. Water is an issue here also.....but I have a well so I have an 1100 gallon fresh storage tank and a lowvoltage deep well pump that can be run from batteries charged by solar/wind. Have tons of firewood...literally. Could always use more food etc. but could also start setting traps for rabbits etc. Would not enjoy life but could go for quite a while without a trip to a store. Unfortunately very little in the way of food crops grow where I live. |

So i'd have maybe 100 gal of water, for 2 people, in an arid climate for eating, drinking, and hygiene/sanitation, that won't last long. It is still only delaying the inevitable in a SHTF situation. Now if you're talking about a localized disruption where services will be restored, then its ok, but long term, the SoCal environment simply cannot support the population. |

As far as food goes not very long. Maybe a week. Same with water. I could probably go a month with power. As the crow flies I can get to "the other side of the tracks" pretty fast. I'm sure I could find some crackheads to feed my dogs (that's a joke, or maybe not Good news is that I am right next to The Peoples Republic of Ann Arbor so there will most likely be food distribution, etc there ad no one in my county has guns so in that sense if the $h!t were to hit the fan I would be better prepared than most if it came down to having to "get the job done" I try not to think about it much. I have lived a fairy tale life so if I had to kick off today I couldn't complain much. I don't have kids to worry about, but I sure do love my dogs. I would probably end up at the in-laws who are out in the country and they have a well and hold up with my Mom, Stepfather and Grandmother and it would be up to my two brother in laws and me to take care of any uglyness that needed to be taken care of. Of course there are a few people on the short list I would need to pay a visit too right away though |

Water screws me every time on polls like this. SoCal is basically a desert. Water will screw 99% of the population. Even if you have a creek in your backyard, what will the water quality be like 1 month into SHTF. If you don't have a well you are screwed. And then you will still be screwed if you are close to a population center. |

Quoted: ahahah not that many people in the area.but i also have a wellQuoted: i have river about 100 yds. from my place Which will look like the Ganges after a month or two. http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/places/images/ga/india_ganges-river-bathing.jpg |

I have city water and sewage. If I lose city water I'm pretty much fooked. I do have some reserve but it isn't going to last horribly long.
And if the city sewage is backed up where do I send my waste? I know where, but again, this would be an inconvenience compared to having a septic system. Otherwise I'm good for a month or two if we behave ourselves. My problem is getting home. I'm 500 miles away. If the SHTF I need to get home first. |
| We (the wife and I) could go for months. But, a couple weeks into it we would relocate to my brother in laws who is a lot more rural than us. Wood heat, well and pond out back. Lotsa game too but I would not depend on that for food. Once all our gear was combined we would do just fine for a long time. |
|
Probably two months easy.
After that, depends on how the fish are biting (my curiosity may get the best of me, and I will finally find out what human flesh tastes like). Seriously, water would be a bit of work, but I know how and could do it. Food is relatively abundant, it would be the competition; not that there aren't enough resources, just not enough who know HOW to use said resources. |
Ive maybe 2-3 weeks of food ,and about 30 gallons of drinking water on hand.
Thing is , I live in an apartment in the city , downtown . It's a small city compared to others , but still ...it's the city. I hate it and probably wouldn't stay here much longer than a week So if it started to look like it was getting bad , Id bug out to another city further North at my parents. I already have two separate paths that stay off of the highways. I would probably stay there as I doubt I could convince my parents , whom are both retired , to go live in the woods with me
